Getting to the festival

So for those lucky enough to have tickets for 2010 one of the first things most of us will think about is how we are going to get there. How are you planning on travelling and just how far do you need to come?

For us it'll be the car next year. Google maps says it's 407 miles from Paisley to Pilton, a journey of around 7 hours. (Did it in 6 in 2008 )

Were coming about 300miles. Did it in 2 cars last year but since there is less of us this year were thinking of hiring a minibus type thing (mainly for the extra beer room)

Going from Cork to Swansea by ferry when that reopens.

Then Swansea down and around so about 250 miles.

Which isn't too bad at all.

Just booked my coach tickets! National express says the journey will take 5 hours 40 mins, but I'm not expecting miracles Good job I enjoy the whole travelling process

I'm not sure what I'll be doing yet. I'm thinking about taking the car but it's a long drive, I'm 421miles, 7 and a half hours driving. I'm going to look into train and bus but I think I probably will end up taking the car.

a lot more people coming from 200miles+ than i thought there would be.

I'm going post graduation on thursday morning this year (provided I decide i still can) so i don't actually know how i'll be going.

7 hours on British roads? You have my sympathy.

I'm going on my own, meeting friends when I get there - so it's the train for me. This year there were delays but overall it was a mostly pleasant journey.

It’ll have to be car for me and my friends, there are 5 of us (all Glastonbury virgins) are coming down from Stockton on Tees with all our stuff and not being funny but getting anywhere from Stockton without a car is a nightmare (even over the river to Middlesbrough) so there is no way I’m going to risk public transport carrying everything for that journey.

Were actually looking at hiring something like an estate car or something along the lines of a Nissan X-Trail so it’ll be big enough to carry all of us and our stuff without having to bring 2 cars. Has anyone done this?

Car from Cov to Yeovil, stop overnight with a mate, then Yeovil to Glasto for whenever the gates open

sunderland to manchester.... then stay overnight at parents then head down early in the morning to get there for when gates open

Car from the Midlands down the M5 to the Holy Grounds.

Except the possible queues, I love the journey down. Everyone in high spirits, the Glasto Mix CD on the go, waving at other festie-goers, discussing the line-up/camp spot etc.

Love it. Absolutely love it. And that feeling when you walk through the gates - always able to raise a smile whilst carrying a shitload of gear whilst some helpful young lass affixes your wristband and gives you your Q bag. Then you walk out onto the hallowed fields and you're home. And you've not even set up camp and sat down with your first beer of the festival, best enjoyed with the reassuring flapping of the nearest flags, as your new neighbours start the cheer that echoes across the valley.....

Now double all that excitement for me, as I missed 2009. I cannot WAIT to get there.

We'll be hiring a minibus and driving down from East London, round the M25, pick up passengers on the way. We usually do stop-overs, one at Fleet Services and then at the Sainsburys in Basingstoke (very handy) for the main shop/supply run, both stops are about 20-30mins. We should be able to do the entire journey in around 4-5hrs BUT last year was something like 7 I think.

We've always come by car because we bring such a big tent and a load of gear (but we do share it's not all for one person). But this year will be bringing a trailer tent.

135 Miles from Cornwall, probably be driving if the rest of my group get tickets but if not it'll be the train or bus I guess.

boat over the channel or fly to airport - then either own car from Weymouth or pick up campervan from airport - not decided yet !

Although travelling down by National Express from Manchester took 14+ hours this year I still want to go on the coach. Miles better than the previous two years when we'd been by train and had to sit on the floor for most of the journey and struggle through stations with bags aplenty. My friends are less willing to coach it again though, even though National Express gave us all half our money back and the traffic problems were un-precedented, un-avoidable bad luck.

Public transport is just too slow and crowded and expensive and there's too many dogs at the station.

I want to get the shuttle bus again, but it did take 9 hours to get there from Bristol this year, which should only take about 40 minutes to an hour(!).

I think I'm going to train it down next year, my friends think it's the more sensible option. We got the train a couple of years back and got fined for having child fare tickets (We were only just 16, apparently that's adult fare- go figure!) and had to deal with a right stroppy cow who worked there, so I'm hoping there aren't any major issues next time.
