Id be over the f**king moon if they played.

1 of the big appeals of Glastonbury imo is the sheer diversity so I dont see how 1 Metal band would do any harm at all.

Also us Metal Heads aint as bad as everyone makes out imo. True you do get some complete dick heads but that happens in any group, most people iv been in mosh pits with are very friendly and there for a good time not there to hurt people or anything like that.

The only way Metallica could happen is if they weren’t announced or even rumoured until the tickets have sold out. This would save the worry of the metal fans buying tickets just to see them.

So ssssssshhhhhhhhhhh.

I thought the reason we didn't have "heavier" bands playing Glasto, was due to a decision made after the Roskilde tragedy?

I'm sure there are plenty Glasto-goers who would love a bit of metal, but it was never going to happen after that particular declaration. I'm not sure Eavis is in a position to reverse that decision just yet..

Yeah all genres have some songs with crappy lyrics. But then it all depends on what you consider crappy.

I really enjoy a lot of Norse Metal such as Amon Amarth which a lot of people would probably consider cringe worthy but I love it :(

Should also probably be pointed out that Metallica are generally not as mosh heavy imo as a lot of metal bands.

Something like Slipknot or Machine Head involves a massive Mosh Pit where as many of Metallicas songs are more suited to just massive amounts of head banging.

There would definatly be a pit but I dont think it would be a giant pit of death some people seem to be envisioning

They would go down well dont think there would be too much trouble either.....Enter Shikari are probably heavier than them and f**ked Up definately are both of which went down really well mosh pits in both were ok apart from some fat ginger c**t in a kilt kept swinging fists so we had to kick the shit out of him, Metallica would just be good headbanging jumping nice moshy fun.

I think Metallica would be an amazing headliner at glastonbury

I saw them at reading 08 and Sonisphere 09 and totaly loved them.

1.they would be something glastonbury have never had before.

2. they are a massive world famous band

3. they are one of the best live bands in the world

The only worry is that it may attact some gimpy metal fans. bt tbh most metal fans are well alright, there just big softy's. The 'hardcore metal noob heads' probbaly wouldn't come because metallica would be the only metal band.

Hetfield said recently that they’ve been touring for “only a year” on this tour, and intend to do at least another year in Japan, Asia, Australia and maybe back to Europe. States will be in there again.

Absolute road warriors.

Glasto doesnt have the balls to book them.

metallica are the metal band for people who don't like metal. When i saw maiden they looked old, you don't get that with metallica though, i've never seen them go through the motions or look bored. And whilst hetfield is getting a bit cringe worthy with his metallica family lines, i've never seen someone work a crowd like that.

Metallica don't play gigs, they command the stage, and vary up the setlist all the time. Saw them at werchter and they played half the new album, usually suicide ;) but they placed the fit the new songs inbetween the classics and don't lose any momentum.

i'm no metaller but i'd watch metallica every year if i could. They always throw in a few suprises (wembley they played no leaf clover which was only released on the live album, and the crowd singing the refrain for deafening!). Seeing them finish the night at werchter with two from kill em all, yet the songs were sund with more passion than they are on the cd.

Eavis is a hypocrit anyway, didn't he book qotsa circa songs of the deaf? if glastonbury can handle nick oliveri in the buff they can certainly handle metallica.

    • If you didn't see melt banana at Apolo. Go see them at the festival. Insane.
    • Interesting, and thanks for coming back to give an update! I've seen that the second stage looks bigger than usual too, looks to be a Serious Stages - Stellar Stage from distance photos.    Seems like sizing wise stages have been scaled up somewhat this year.
    • I see its cancelled now but they did leave it really late to announce plus they are up against Kelburn Garden Party Festival not to far from the festival site.
    • Easily my favourite set of the day.
