Tents left behind...but what about caravans?

Don't know about caravans, but I was shocked to find out that the tents end up in landfill. 10000 last year I believe.

That's such a waste.

Could they not set up a second hand tent shop online? Cheap tents, cheap running costs and all profits going to charity?

I've been hearing all about this and many other horror stories surrounding our precious festival. If I find out they're true then my god I'm going to kick up a fuss! I could have had 5 girl guide troups down there packing up tents, they could have swept the site and had them all up on eBay raising money for charity before the sun had set. What an absolute joke, if Glastonbury doesn't do something to sort it out for next year then I'm not going! I only left the site yesterday after speaking to a number of people there and finding out how the site works. Right now I'm very disappointed and I'm going to be speaking to people over the coming week to find out if the stories are true.

The litter pickers are the most amazing people and are doing a brilliant job right now but are currently being treated like absolute garbage.

We had to leave our gazebo this year because some stupid cow drunkenly fell into it and snapped one of the poles. It was either leave it there for landfill or lug it all the way home to put it in landfill. Still, gazebo did us 2 years and tent has done us 5 so far.

This year I took my tent down, packed it away in its bag and left it at the campsite steward point under the sign that said "Donated Tents". People who just leave their stuff where it is are tossers (some people in my group included, sadly )

Jesus why do you think on your wristband it said LEAVE NO TRACE that means you take everything back home with you.

Can't see why people can't pack them up and leave them by the info points / camp site crew. Imagine how many scout / guide / camping groups could make use of them.

I'm tempted to stick around on monday next year and pack as many up as I can!

We always take pride in taking a last look back at our pitch when we're leaving a field. Gives you a warm feeling to see nothing but a flattened patch of grass.

I feel the same. It always reminded me of when I was on exercise with the military, and we would leave a place cleaner than we found it.

Unfortunately this isn't limited to Glastonbury, and is festival wide. I used to think it was due to been so far away from your car, but at Solfest you camp next to your car and that was worse. Especially people using the bushes as toilets rather than walk 50 yards

I'm surprised there aren't more second hand stalls on site, I found one on the first day where I bought a used sleeping bag for a fiver, nowt wrong with it apart from being a bit musty smelling, certainly a damn sight cheaper than buying new. They had tons of them, and blankets and stuff like that, I'm sure they could probably tat a load more gear if they stuck around after the fest and could make a packet out of it. I'm certainly considering it at Leeds fest later this year, picking up decent looking abandoned tents and camping gear and selling it at car boot sales. I couldn't do it at Glasto because I live so far away and travelled down on public transport. It makes me angry that people abuse the stuff they are going to leave, like leaving crap on the floor of an otherwise decent tent, or burning stuff that could be reused
