I can't recall the year (2001 maybe?) but he did pull a vast crowd at the Pyramid stage one year, and jolly good fun it was too. You can't take Rolf to seriously, it's all a bit of a giggle in the sunshine!

As regards the Jazz stage cock up - it happens occasionally. They had similar problems back in 2000 when they foolishly put Orbital on there for a Saturday night rave up, despite the bands almost legendary reputation as a Glastonbury must see.

From Rolf's official site (my emphasis):

Rolf played the Festival again this year, introduced by MC BB Manik who later returned to perform a rap and beat-box version of ‘Pavlova’ with him. Rolf said “It’s the best show I’ve ever done in my life. There were people as far as the eye could see. By the time we got to ‘British ‘Roo’ (‘Tie Me Kangaroo Down, Sport’ sung to the tune of ‘Land of Hope And Glory’) every arm was in the air waving back and forth! It was incredible!

:D

Ah ... the joys of geting there very early having remembered the 6P principle: Proper Planing Prevents Pi$$ Poor Performance and all that

I almost always try to catch the opening set on one of the stages every day in any case no matter just how stupid o'clock and how light it actually was when I finally crawled back to Ye Olde Tent so I was there for Warsaw Village Band or whoever it was up first. They were 'different' it has to be said but enjoyable all the same as was having a couple of pints of Pear Cider for brekky, stumbling across some friends I only ever meet at another festival and claiming a place on one of the benches down near the stage in readiness for the Antipodean one to appear.

So, all in all, Pear Cider with Rolfie followed by Ale with t'Hotpots at Avalon shortly afterwards was just about the perfect start to Glasto Saturday for me this year ;) Ya can't beat a well chilled, amusing/entertaining and sing-a-long stylee non-too-serious start to the day ! All jolly good stuff.

Definately should have been on the Pyramid Stage! Rolf mentioned himself that last time he played at Glasto 75,000 people turned up (not sure if this is exaggerated slightly...) but they probably could have seen it coming.

totally agree. rolf was just so so disappointing. there were HUGE gaps inbetween each song, without anything being said. just total silence. the crowd was very subdued (obviously) and it was way too busy to enjoy anything. left before the end, he was shocking.

slight detour, but i went to latitude last year , and they put blondie on in a marquee, talk about not knowing your audience !

We got in but plenty of people i know could'nt get anywhere near, and as for rolf, we turned back when there where obviously problems getting into the field, later learnt they had closed the gates !
