ok so i have myspace because it has all the music and that on it. Now all my friends use facebook so myspace is really only good for music now but then this twitter comes along to be the social networking site of the moment.

Now i had a look at some pages and all this twitter seems to be is like the comment part of myspace and facebook and nothing else.

How come it is so popular then?

anyone here use it? please tell me what i'm missing out on.

thank you

I got an account a couple of months back, because we found that a lot of the hits on our site were coming from there, so I joined to see where the source was, I couldn't find it, so Now I hardly ever go on it.

I don't really 'Get it' :P

the only time i've used it was at SXSW the last 2 years just because about 60% of the people there were using it. it was handy to just see who was moaning about queues to get into X venue so it saved me walking there and finding out myself or to see what bands everyone were banging on about it.

it has its uses in that aspect in my eyes, but in general - just seems absolutely pointless. seems really self centered :/

I loved myspace, and I love Facebook.

Myspace - mainly for music. I remember hearing the new Coldplay and Oasis albums in their entirety. A great move - I chose to buy Viva La Vida on the grounds of hearing it on myspace. I've also downloaded a lot of tracks from unsigned bands that I never would have had the chance to hear otherwise. All good. I found it a bit rubbish for keeping in touch with friends, but I loved it for music. I don't really use it much now though.

Facebook - it has many things that annoy me, but I have 're-discovered' many old friends via Facebook, and is great for catching up with people. My latest grievance with it are people who 'become a fan' of the most inane things e.g. 'x is a fan of sleeping'. Get a f**king life. :) I find Facebook useful but it has it's faults.

Twitter - f**king garbage. It's just for people who are obsessed with other people's lives, but too lazy or uneducated to buy an autobiography or read an article on them. If you want to read a blog, find a proper blog, not a single sentence 3 times a day detailing what colour shit someone passed. Bollocks to that. If I read something about someone, I want to be able to acknowledge an ounce of writing talent, or learn something about them (a quick plug for Iamthewalrus's blog that I had a read of once through clicking the link on his sig - an interesting, well written read IMV). Twitter is just condensed tabloid fodder, and I have nothing but contempt for it. The sooner it becomes something of the past that is ridiculed for the pointless crap it is, the better.

Well said Langdale *thumbs up*

I'm now wishing I had something useful to add to that. What is the psychology of people who enjoy forums and messageboards? Are we just bored/miserable/lonely?! B)B)

"High Five? Alright!" B):)

Well certainly those things seem to apply to some. It's also a feeling of online community for some I think... also a soapbox to some... hmmm... *puts on mortarboard and puffs on pipe*

    • I was hoping that they would just do a tour like they were set to in 2020, rather than having Download as their UK appearance. If they are at DL, I would be surprised to see them headline. I think they sub under Deftones or SOAD
    • well, we might know by the end of next month if they drop the lineup early again
    • I'm definitely not camping 🙂.  My 17 year old Daughter and her friends are there 3 days and commuting back to Sheffield each day as didn't want to camp .  I am taking and picking up the Saturday so thought I may as well get a ticket as love Fontaines DC - need to do a lot of research on the other acts though to fill my day.    I walked through the camp site other year the day Arctic Monkeys played and it was like a War Zone.  My Son has camped a couple of times but didn't fancy my Daughter staying over.
    • Not at all impressed with Polanski saying "noone should be barred from public life" wrt the Tory neo-nazi. I really don't think "no nazis in politics" should be an excessive standard.
