The only difference is that on twitter you "follow people" (the same as having friends on facebook) but generally the people you follow are people you don't know - as aposed to your friends on facebook.

I like twitter. Luckily I can access it on my phone as I have no internet during the day. I have locked my updates for a short while for various reasons. I do find it a bit odd though when you get followed by random people. Saying that I follow a lot of randoms.

Love gastobating on there though, great fun!

Yeah but I have celebrities on facebook :P It's just that celebrities are more elusive on facebook. To develop my original point then - twitter is just like celebrities' facebook status.

The one good thing about twitter I think is that due to the large number of people who follow each celebrity it is a very good adveritising tool for celebrities and likewise, it is a very good way of keeping up with these things which are being advertised (i.e. singers announcing tours, tv stars plugging shows etc.) but twitter doesn't work in the opposite direction very well - in that very few people want to follow a "normal person" so you're really just reading what celebrities say. When I used twitter I was never compelled to 'tweet' because my audience was about 8 people, who were following me :P

I can understand why people don't get Twitter. I didn't first time around and I think thats the case for a lot of people.

However to say its useless isn't true. I got my current job via Twitter. I also find it a fairly invaluable search tool. I was talking to former colleague and he said he's noticed a change in the way he surfs. For certain subject matters, he'll search twitter first, and then revert to Google if he can't find the info hes after.

In general I don't follow any celebrities, a couple of bands, but most of the people I follow are work related, runners or festival goers.

It differs from Facebook statuses in that you can search anybodies latest tweet (btw I'm not a Facebook user so probably not the best person to do the comparison). You'll get random followers because they'll be robots or people searching for keywords that you might 'tweet' about.

The hash tags are great for being able to follow and join in conversations. The tools that are built to handle Twitter away from the web are great...

Also if you have it on your phone, another way of looking at it is that informationt that your interested in comes to you. I found out about the Glastonbury line-up being release via my mobile yesterday...

Only downside of Twitter - I think I might be addicted.

I am a twitter addict. I fully admit it. I LOVE IT! I follow very few celebrities, those I do follow are nearly all to do with my obsessions (NFG, Criminal Minds and Bones) and their "tweets" make up for very little I talk about. I mostly talk about the shows - Especially Criminal Minds, as their fan-base is sadly under-represented and they need a spoiler queen (namely me). I tweet about Bones a lot too. I had my first "tweet-up" on Wednesday and had a GREAT time meeting someone locally (somewhat) with the same interests as me!

I signed up in June. Started tweeting when I moved house in September. I'm approaching my 30,000th tweet (might hit it later today... depending on how long my tonsils let me sleep).

to all those saying people don't want to follow "normal people" that ABSOLUTE BOLLOCKS - I'm normal, well... not famous anyway, and I'm approaching 600 followers now... that could be due to spoiler-queen-ness and my regular tweets from CBS (the network) Hart Hanson (the creator of Bones) Pej Vahdat (who is the sweetest actor in history. He even sent me a soundbyte for my mums birthday present coz she loved him) and my... somewhat random... tweet from Neal Baer who created the Law and Orders... considering I don't follow him... Yeah... That was weird.

I follow a lot of random unfamous people too, I've even met a couple of awesome people who I would count as friends. I keep connected with a lot of people who have moved away, I talk about my random obsessions, mostly TV shows... especially Criminal Minds as no f**ker I know watches it... It's a genuine great reason to tweet. I think only Sazzy follows me from here though... If you don't like regular tweeters do NOT follow me... I got twitter jailed earlier... which only happens when you tweet 100 times in an hour...

twitter is royally pissing me off at the moment, I get a "you have been phished" email from them, prompting me to change my pw, then when I do, I get a "youve been phished" email from them, rinse repeat. I really like twitter. but its f**king me off no end right now.

I LOVE Bones.....must people look at me strangly when i say that and i have to explain its a program etc. Just started re-watching Series 1.

To stay on topic - i also love twitter, follow lots of things for work and even use it for work. Didn't truly get it until started to follow work related stuff and still amazes me how useful it can be.

I'm a HUGE Bones fan... but I'm much more interested in Criminal Minds since thats what I'm studying (again) from September. I can't imagine doing anything work-related on it. I talk far too much trosh about TV. I'd need a separate account.

Did you watch the 100th Bones episode the other day.

I was REALLY annoyed by it... didn't like it at all... the very IDEA that Brennan isn't good enough for Booth is ridiculous. Not too mention Booth giving up far too easily... AND all the continuity issues that were brought up!

OK. I don't know where else to put this because I got TWO TWEETS of the cast of Criminal Minds today, and I'm freaking out about it a little coz they are so amazingly awesome!

I got a "Happy Birthday Nicole" from Joe Mantegna because it's my best friends 21st today

AND I got a "Hello" off of my favourite actor Thomas Gibson (yes from Dharma and Greg).

I'm so happy.

That is all.

    • Madonna lived in the UK for absolutely ages and I think is still largely London-based at the moment.  I'm sure she'll be well aware.     But it wouldn't need to be either / or.  Lots of acts do both  - Glastonbury for the hype and BST for the pay.
    • There is a chance that Norton's reaction was very much like our reaction, because people in this country tend to think 'big = Glastonbury'.   Having said that, though, I'm fairly sure they've gone for her again this time, and it's broken down. Whether it's only just broken down or not, I'm not sure, but I'd air on the side of - they thought they had her, up to a certain point.
    • Yeah, I did wonder if they might be getting too big for Piece Hall now. Wet Leg did Castlefield this year and were subbing them at Tramlines. Wishful thinking! I'd happily see them do another outdoor headline in the north of England, wherever it might be (except R+L, which I'm def too old for now 😂)
    • You've certainly got a bunch of American acts who absolutely adore the festival and are willing to bring peanuts for it. You can never discount The Killers on that basis.
    • Law unto herself, Madge. But I think, for a certain generation, Hyde Park still has a touch of mystery and magic - that and Wembley Stadium.
