The Glastonbury 2011 clashfinder is up and running at http://www.clashfindergeneral.co.uk/s/g2011/

It's not much to look at at the moment but hopefully we'll get some more acts announced before the festival. ;)

The most detailed source of information will, of course, be this thread.

New features:

Linking

Let's say you've set-up a clashfinder on your home computer and you want to view it on your work computer. You could email yourself the link from home, but if you then decided to change your highlights at work you'd have to email the link back home to view those changes there.

A better method is to link your work computer to your home computer. If you link two computers, they will share the same save and restore file so a change you make on one machine will be reflected on the other. To do this:

- On the computer that you've set-up your clashfinder, click the "Link" menu item at the top of the clashfinder page.

- Note the Local ID code. (It'll be 6 characters, a dot, and then 8 characters, like "00ab23.rder5gp2". There's a short version of the ID that only has two characters after the dot - that won't work.)

- On the other computer, go to the clashfinder page, click the "Link" menu item and enter the ID that you wrote down.

- Click OK

If you've got it right, the page will refresh and you'll see all the highlights from the first computer, which you can now edit and save as much as you like.

You can enter your ID code on as many computers as you like and they'll all point to the same file. I've got my home computer, work computer and phone linked like this.

Even if you don't want to link computers together, it might be worth taking a note of your Local ID if you've spent a while setting highlights -- if your computer dies, you'll be able to link your new machine to the old one and get all your highlights back. It's probably worth mentioning that changing your browser is the same as changing computers from my site's point of view.

Linking is site-wide. If you link two computers for the Glasto 2011 clashfinder, they'll also be linked for Glasto 2010, Latitude, Reading, V and all other clashfinders.

Mobile Version

If you visit a clashfinder with a mobile, you'll be redirected to the mobile version. It's not really a clashfinder -- just a list of acts -- but it'll be pretty neat if you're brave enough to take your smartphone to the festival.

The list for Glasto will end up quite long. If you want to quickly scroll up and down the list, tap a stage name. The full list will collapse to just show stage names. Tap a stage name again to expand it around the stage you hit.

If you've linked your PC to your phone (see above) or you've clicked a link that contains highlights, the highlights will be shown as little boxes next to the act names. You can choose to only show the highlighted acts by checking the "Only show highlights" box.

If you want to find a specific act, type part of the name in the Quick Search box, wait for a bit and the list will be filtered to show the acts that contain the text you typed.

During the festival, you'll be able to view the list of stages just showing the acts that are on Now, Next and Later. Change the "Display mode" dropdown box to Now, Next, Later.

Itinerary

This is really a version of the mobile page but it works perfectly well on a PC and (importantly) it prints nicely. If you've set some highlights on the clashfinder, an "Itinerary" menu item will appear. Click it and you'll get a list of all your highlighted acts sorted chronologically.

Data Export

If you've set highlights and you want to export the list of highlighted acts to another application, click the "Export" menu item. You'll get a little pop-up box asking what you want to export and what format you want (at the moment you can export in iCalendar, JSON, XML or PHP format). Click OK and the data will be downloaded to your PC.

Sharing your Clashfinder

It's a bit difficult to explain so I'll try to keep it as simple as possible. When you're sharing the clashfinder, there are three different addresses that you could be sharing:

- The vanilla clashfinder. No highlights, no set-up. The address will look like this: www.clashfindergeneral.co.uk/s/g2011/

- A read-only link to your user ID. The address will show your highlights as you last saved them. If you change your highlights, anyone following the link will see your new highlights. The address will look like this: www.clashfindergeneral.co.uk/s/g2011/user=0022yo.yg&

- A snapshot of your clashfinder. The address will always display the highlights as they're currently set. The address will contain a shortened list of the highlights, like this: www.clashfindergeneral.co.uk/s/g2011/hl1=goteam,jimmyc&hl-col1=cdf&hl-name1=halvin&

If you want to share the vanilla clashfinder, click the "Reset to Defaults" menu item (to remove all your highlights) and use the links or URL in the sharing box.

If you want to share a read-only link to your clashfinder, use the links in the sharing box immediately after clicking "Save" or "Restore" menu items.

If you want to share a snapshot, set some highlights but *don't* save the clashfinder. Use the links in the sharing box.

Phew, I think that's it.

tl;dr:

set your highlights, print, enjoy your festival.
