I read Allan Carr's book, very good it was too, its basically just Neuro Linguistic Programming in action, and has been mentioned in a thread a few years back. I stopped smoking but fell into the worst trap a quitter can fall into "well that was easy, I could have a fag now and it wouldnt bother me". and it did. and I started again, and was a regular 30 a day guy until 3 days ago.

tuesday was day 8 of my champix course, and my designated "stop day", I woke up for work and didnt really crave a ciggy, although I had 3 left in the packet in the car, I smoked one, and over the next couple of hours I smoked the other 2. then the strangest thing happened - normally I would last about 40 minutes and the cravings would start, but they didnt - I had no fags, and no desire to go and buy any. I havent wanted one since. And I went out on the beer last night, still no desire to go outside in the f**king freezing cold and have a fag.

I tried hypnosis 2 years ago and I honestly think that it was a waste of quite alot of money. On the day I was designated to stop, I was in a blind panic and to be honest a complete mess ! But I was determined to try and so I read the Allen Carr book and that was far more help, I managed to stop for over 4 months (I've been smoking for 24 years). I think the reason I failed is because I tried to combine the book with the hypnosis and didn't start reading it until after I'd stopped, I started on the wrong foot and was relying on will power which grinds you down eventually.

Am going to try again soon and will definately be using the Allen Carr method, as far as I'm concerned the psychological addiction is far far worse than the physical addiction.

Good luck pal. Hey, will I be seeing you in the fields of joy in June?? I hope so x

My bloke is at the doctors this afternoon, not only to find out what's wrong with him :) but also to seek advice on how to quit. I'm definately going to suggest he tries the Allen Carr book. It's worth a try.

Nice one B)

How are you doing Atlantean?

I smoked all through Christmas, though much less than I would have. I stopped on the 28th again and have had only one evening of smoking when out for a friend's birthday - but that was only 4 fags as opposed to 10 or 15 on a regular night. Had no desire for a cigarette before that or since!

  • 2 weeks later...

Quit on sunday night, and I'm feeling it today. I will not give in! I'm still suprised I've gone this long and that I've not needed any patches or anything. After today I think it's going to get easier.

Edit: Must add - I've never felt this good in a long time health wise, and at the gym last night I could really notice the difference even after one day.
