yeah, ok, so its a compilation album - but there are several albums that perfectly capture a moment in time for me (other examples include the first Tip Records comp, the orange album, and the first Mokum Records f**king Hardcore album)

 

this album is just incredible.

 

I was working in Tower Records at the time this was released, and every time we put it on the store PA it would literally fly out the door.

 

this was also the time I was spending most of my time in London squat parties.

 

wonderful times, and wonderful, if rather blurry, memories in this record.

I know, it's a greatest hits, but it will always have a special place in my heart, ax it was the first record I owned. And I still have it.

one of my all time favourites.

 

absolutely no idea what happened to this fella after this album, but this record is hard as f**k.

 

its basically Senser before Senser.

Given this belter a few re-listens over last week or so one of my favourite albums of my childhood. See if my love for it can stir me to go to the tour given its on the menu.    It would have been a must do years back but the last few times i have seen them it has been a half arsed show at best.  Hopefully the older material will amp it up a bit.

 

Always makes me laugh at myself   i was 11 years old when i first got this album and im going to be honest i miss understood quite a lot of the lyrics -   I thought My Sweet Prince was some kind of love song -  featuring a Dragon for some reason.

Overdue a slot at Glastonbury

Casino Classics is a multi-disc remix compilation album by Saint Etienne. The first CD collects many of the remixes featured as B-sides on the band's singles from 1990 to 1995. The second contains rarer remixes (such as Underworld's remix of "Cool Kids of Death") and newly commissioned remixes.

even tho Liquidizer was probably the better album, I always liked this album more for some reason, and it is where they had their brief moment of mainstream success,  

 

Jesus Jones was another of those bands I discovered through skateboarding (Suicidal Tendencies, Dinosaur Jr and Napalm Death being a couple of others).

Don't listen to it that much but always been good live when I've seen/heard them at festivals (including last year on Pyramid while on shift). Pauline Black also comes across well in the balance of political/social messaging. 

 

p.s. Japanese version for the vinyl geeks which includes On My Radio that is not on the UK release

sort of following on from my pick for last week..

 

I loved EMF back in the day. first album was brilliant (obviously) but this was always my favourite of theirs - harder and darker than Schubert Dip.

 

saw them live many times over the years, and they're still good live now.
