I don;t think anybody's started this yet, so I'll make a thread 🙂 I've never been to Riskilde or Denmark, but always been keen and if Rock Werchter and Down the Rabbit Hole don't pull out anything special then I may make the trip...

Anyone here been? If so, what's the festival like in terms of atmosphere, variety of food and drinks and general things to do aside from music?

Also, what are people expecting/hoping for from the lineup?

I live in Copenhagen and have attended 6 times. Happy to answer any questions!

It's a fun festival that feels like a hybrid of Glastonbury with Reading Festival with Roadburn. Tons of variety in acts from big recent pop acts (Charli XCX) to metal (Nine Inch Nails) to obscure weird underground stuff. One day I saw The Armed -> Janelle Monae -> Converge -> The Cure -> Behemoth -> Cypress Hill in a row. They also have alot of 'world music' playing throughout the festival. Some of my favourite times  have been a few hours inbetween known acts and just wandering between the stages and discovering new things. If you like going to a festival that is mostly one genre (ie: rock and metal so go to Download) it might not be the best place to go.

Unlike UK festivals, they tend to have alot of music on after the main headliner. Late night headliners sometime starting at like 3am.

The festival is seen as a 'right of passage' to Danes and has alot of different ages attending. Although recent years skews more towards the younger teenager side. I've never stayed in the campsite (always got the train back and forth between Copenhagen and Roskilde each day) but it looks alot like the chaos of Reading & Leeds.

It's really difficult to predict the lineup, but I'd guess they have the likes of The Cure, Sabrina Carpenter, Gorillaz, Massive Attack playing. They usually book some flash in the pan headliner who will bomb (such as Ice Spice and Lil Nas X a few years ago) and also some local Danish hip hop artist (by some boring artist name like 'Tessa' or 'Gilli') who the local kids will love but no one else knows.

thanks for the info mate. That sounds great... I think it's up our street, definitely 🙂

What are the prices like there? In the UK there is a lot of trepidation about the infmaous Scandanavian prices.. but I think Denmark isn;t as expensive as Sweden and Norway, is that right?

That is kinda crazy, since the camping at Roskilde is like 50 % of the whole experience. There is great parties before the festival with many good up-and-coming bands from the nordic countries. And you have camps which is more quiet, so you don't have to live inside a party. I've stayed at the silent and clean camp, and that was perfect! Two minutes walk to parties and two minutes back "home" for a sleep.

My best tip for Roskilde is to go for the full experience, and just find a camp that suits you.

So there are parties on the camp site? He's right, it does sound like Reading an dLeeds! If they pull a good lineup ut the bag, I'm in!!

Any indication when the lineup will drop??

Back when I drank I did like 10 years in a row of festival camping in the UK, doing 2 to 4 fests a year, so had my fill of campsite debauchery. 😄 It's about an hour door to door for me and my own bed and shower is too much to pass up!

Maybe I'll look into the more chill campsites for next year to try it. 🙂

nice one mate. And whe you say "starts", are they likely to drip feed it?

They usually do 1 drop a month and that typically includes 1 or 2 major names plus a sprinkling of other acts throughout the lineup in size and genre. It's so attendees research all the names spaced out rather than just the ones at the top!

Denmark is insanely expensive; much more than Sweden and probably on par with Norway now. Its definetly not a festival than can be done 'on the cheap'. 😅 Although as its volunteer driven I think comparatively you dont feel as nickel and dimed as other major festivals. Its also super easy to sneak alcohol and food into the central area with the stages.

really?? I thought it was less expesive than Sweden and way less than Norway! May have to review this then as I've been out off Primavera by ticket + accomodation cost... if I'm going to be paying £15 for drinks and meals then it'll soon add up!

Also noticed the lineups in the last few years have gone pretty downhill. I guess that trend is evident across all major festivals, but the last few years looked particularly poor with only a few acts on each day I'd be intersted in.. Will definitely keep an eye out though

Out of all the fests ive been to in the UK and Europe, I would class roskilde the 2nd best. If it had better weather would be no 1.

Just looked on my credit card bill and I was paying £6.60 for the standard Tuborg and £7.60 for the stronger craft beers. Cocktails were between £10-£12. Most food I had was about £12 although I did pay £15 a couple of times (maybe Pizza?) Have to say coming from the UK this is pretty reasonable. However the prices in Copenhagen were way higher!!

Cheers mate... that's basically the same as here then, isn't it? My plan (if I go) is to fly out, get a load of vodka in the duty-free shop in the UK, spend a night in Copenhagen and go to the festival with all my own alcohol and snacks... I don;t think it'll work out too costly...

I'm actually confised by the dates.. it says 26/6 - 4/7, which is Friday - Saturday.. So which dates are the main acts likely to be on?

The Cure have announced Poland on 3rd July and then they're in Norway at Oya on 12th.. Anyone think that rules them out of Roskilde?

Weds-Sat

Could in theory do Weds - Roskilde, Friday - Opener and Sunday - Werchter

I think Oya is 12th August. It’s usually the same weekend as Way Out West.

Main fest Wednesday- Saturday (4 days), 3 days of warm up dates with Scandinavian acts. Playing Gaia and Eos stages, although this is changing in 2026.

Looking at the dates, big possibility for Nick Cave at Roskilde. Hopefully they can bag The Cure and The XX also.
