2027 Headliners

Still seems mad to me he would turn it down, unless he's confident - and likely rightfully so - that he'll still be in the frame to do it come 2027.

I wonder how many have missed their chance by thinking that way?

I don’t think Fender was very seriously in conversations for this year…I think Emily got the three headliners she wanted.

Neil Young is one of her dad’s favourite acts and we understand that there’s been a desire for while to get him to return to the festival. The opportunity arose well this year.

Olivia Rodrigo smashed her 2022 set and gone on to become a megastar, so is a huge coup from the festival (she, too, has said Glastonbury was her favourite show of her last tour).

Pre-COVID, I believe Emily said she had booked four out of six of the next headliners (I think it would’ve been 2020/2021 rather than 21/22) and it’s widely believed The 1975 had been booked for 2021. NME reported that this is their only show for 2025, and so I imagine the opportunity came up for them as a last-chance way to honour that previous commitment.

Sam Fender’s star won’t dim that much in the next three years that he won’t be in conversations for a future headlining spot. Personally, I reckon he will tour next summer as well and take 2027 off to record a new album, so a headlining spot in 2028 seems more likely to me.

The whole Fred again.. debate is what throws me for a loop. I assumed The 1975 were carried over from being a likely lock in 2021 ahead of the pandemic going wrong, Neil Young is obviously a neat pick for Michael to sign off with and Rodrigo just makes common sense to lock down now.

As for those who have missed their chance... less a case that they were asked and refused, but Biffy Clyro should have been plucked up in 2015 as the replacement for Foo Fighters. Alas, they were off the road, and not touring full-stop.

Sam Fender/Harry Styles, Chappell Roan, Oasis

Hozier, Paramore and a big rock band to sub (any takers?)

The xx, Bring Me The Horizon (potential to be outside Pyramid headliner still) and Bicep Other headliners.

Doubt Oasis are still gonna be touring in 2027.

I think they'll finish on Glastonbury in 2027 with a final Manchester show in toe. I still believe that Glastonbury would have done 2027 as a fallow year instead of next year if they thought Oasis would only be about those two years and be up for it. I can't believe Glastonbury didn't know something about the reunion and they where they stood in terms of playing. I've thought got a while and wouldn't be surprised that they've taken the fallow slightly early to be around for them. Could be wrong. Initially I thought they'd done it for Taylor Swift but I don't think here is any definitive guarantee when she would likely to be back, no time soon.

I think that's a decent shout for other headliners. BMTH won't get Pyramid.

I reckon Hozier, Lorde and said rock band.

Yeah I think BMTH are still in that weird middle zone (headlining R&L outright and other major European festivals as well as now playing arenas) but Other headliner seems reasonable for sure.

Didn't think about Lorde only because I assume she'll be on the festival circuit mostly next year (Coachella, maybe R&L, European festivals etc.) but I can defo imagine her continuing to 2027. I think Paramore could FINALLY sub in 2027 if they have a new album out by then although I'd still love an Other headline slot from them personally. I reckon we could get a pretty big name to sub Oasis if they end up playing, thought the Phonics initially but doubt they'd have an album out so soon.

I'm not even sure BMTH get other headliner at Glastonbury to be honest, they might have to settle for other sub. I think Paramore and Lorde could both play. One could be Saturday sub and one Saturday other headliner like Raye and Charli.

Unless she’s going to do a “secret set” this year, it has to be Lady Gaga

It does if she's touring and accepts the money. But she's touring this year and I'm expecting her to do some festivals next year which discounts her as i doubt she'll still be going in 2027. But Fender even if he's not that great, Lady Gaga and Oasis is a great trio.

Almost had him

I was curious as to what venue size they might book for him. Tottenham Stadium feels bigger than I anticipated - thought they'd be likelier to do London O2.

Also, while it looks to have sold very well, some parts are £400+ per regular ticket. Talk about bringing US pricing to the UK alright.

To be fair, in a year where Gracie Abrams, who played 2 nights at the O2, is third down on the other then BMTH could be Other sub but I think they could be good counter-programming for a pop headliner like Chappell/Rihanna/Harry/Gaga. I didn't even think about both of them but that could be feasible, Paramore in either would work but I'd love to see what they would get to do in an Other headliner slot.

Is there no chance Idles are in the conversation?

They deserve it. One of the best live bands around, have done lots of stuff for the festival before.

If their next album does well, there could be potential but right now I'd say maybe Pyramid sub next time. But I do agree they do absolutely deserve it, their Other headliner set last year was excellent and Joe seemed very touched when I got to tell him so. Fontaines D.C., on the other hand, I could absolutely see happening post-fallow with their trajectory. I know they apparently turned down Pyramid sub for this year but with another excellent album under their belts I could see it happening.

No way, they got lucky to headline the other. Not a chance they do the pyramid. Would make SZA’s crowd look like Elton’s

Think Idles would get a massive crowd and they deserve it as the hardest working band around. I think they may have already peaked though unless their next album is massive.

“hardest working band around”, one of the most annoying statements in music, doesn’t necessarily mean you’re any good. Seem to remember it being said about Frank Turner, interesting 🤔 does it actually mean most shouty
