I assume they must be; they surely can't think that just moving acts around is the right way to proceed.

However, I'm surprised they haven't done a reassurance post letting people know that's what they are doing.

Their communication sucks in recent years, I doubt the lack of info means anything. What’s more concerning is they removed Kneecap from the lineup and there’s no TBA slot instead of them. Which probably also means nothing.

Have Sziget actually announced the withdrawal of Kneecap? I know Kneecap have announced it, but have Sziget actually, at any stage, confirmed that the band won't be there? Very poor if they haven't.

They posted a pretty long statement about the situation

They normally only announce that someone is not performing when they already have the replacement.

That's what happened with ASAP Rocky, it happened a lot in the 2022 edition (there were so many cancellations in the last 2-3 weeks) that's expected to happen with Ecca Vandal, and probably Kneecap as well - I know there was a statement, but I really believe there's more to come about this issue. They won't let one of their most important timeslots stay empty. 100% sure. The question is if they get someone new, and if they do, is it a Hungarian name (like Carson Coma for example) or a proper international band.

Agree, they've essentially lost their second stage headliner for the day - you can't just ignore that!

You also definitely can't leave that slot empty, and just adding in someone small further down the bill and then moving everyone up a slot is a bit of a cheapskate way of dealing with the issue.

Appreciate that logistically it isn't easy to find the right act, negotiate price, arrange accommodation and flights etc in just a couple of weeks but it's their bookers' job and it's not like they're booking and negotiating for dozens of acts - it's just one.

Am I the only one who noticed Anyma is the only headliner with zero promo? He was announced back in December and still no video, no reel, nothing. Maybe I’m overthinking, but could it be they don’t want to show his visuals and shows, because there won’t be any “The End of Genesys” elements? Also, In the newest IG reel, Kiss of life and all the other headliners appear, but no Anyma at all

Also, kinda weird there’s no Justice promo either, especially since they’re a huge name with a crazy production

They're dropping like flies! Michael Kiwanuka just dropped out of Pukkelpop due to 'continued illness' which means he's definitely out of Sziget too.

Quote: Michael will sadly be unable to perform at the rest of his scheduled festival performances throughout the rest of the Summer and the shows in North America in October (including the support tour with Mumford & Sons).

So they've lost headliner and sub for the same day. There'll be some slightly peeved day ticket holders I suspect!

I love festivals and behind the scenes stuff but this is exactly why I wouldn't work at one.

3-4 names cancelled, major ones, go solve it. Must be difficult. I doubt they'll get much sleep.

Its times like this that i love being on these forums but yeah I bet its not an easy job at all in situations like this. Almost a week to go and you have 2 BIG slots empty

Last time they had something similar was in 2017/8 Rita Ora and Clean Bandit has cancelled. Charli XCX aswell but that wasn’t as last minute aa the other two if I remember correctly. We got Iggy Azalea and Galantis instead. And Quimby instead of Charli

I can’t imagine them not having backups already locked in ready to go. There is no way they started to just look now.

    • How much is Burnham's success down to Manchester getting a shitton of investment for public transport infrastructure?   There's no doubt he did the work, but the money dumped into Manchester for him to achieve that was huge - the most of any infrastructure project outside London ever. Did that need a mayor, or just the money?
    • Sounds good tbh.
    • Bristol was the only city in 2012 that voted for a mayor. We had a local independent who was popular, then Marvin Rees won and was so corrupt that Bristol voted to get rid of the position - having just had the WECA mayor position put in place as well.
    • They built a watering system and have been watering the island for the past few weeks to reduce dust, but given the current drought, there will still be dust. They will cover twice as much ground around the main stage with those plastic panels as they did before. They couldn't book Gogol Bordello because the singer was afraid the government would allow Russian security services to capture him if he entered the country. They didn't have much room to be selective about artists. They booked whoever they could get. This year's Sziget will be only about 50% of his original vision. He wanted a dedicated rock stage. They are preparing for a loss of 1.5 billion HUF this year. For some reason, student tickets are not selling in the numbers they had expected. He said that when he talks about the lineup being less important, he doesn't mean Sziget should have a weaker lineup than Primavera. Rather, it should have a similarly strong lineup combined with much more non-musical programming, so people from abroad come here to see the same artists but have a completely different overall experience. He didn't miss Sziget and originally wanted to spend no more than two days a week dealing with it, but now he's working on it full-time and has handed over control of the rest of his businesses.
    • Well the point seems to be 22.7% turn out doesn't suggest the majority are rushing out to support the mayoral system.
