Open'er Festival 2025

A question for people, that have already visited Open'er Festival:
Is it fair to assume that the site is a bit "lackluster"? Compared to (themed) sites like the one for "Down the rabbit hole Festival"?
How would you rate the site in general? (space, toilet options, waiting times...)

There are nice colourful lamp posts along the main alley, there are a few very instagram-friendly fake palm trees, but no, it's just an airfield, no big umbrella theme.

 

Other than some very busy moments we never waited for toilets for more than a minute. Often we didn't wait at all. Compared to other big festivals getting food (of which options are quite diverse I'd say) was also usually easy. One thing that surprises first-timers though is that you can't bring beer (or other alcohol) to the part of the site where the stages are located. Polish law, the locals explained to us. We've been to Open'er a few times now and we got used to it though. At least no one spills beer on you in the crowd 😉

 

Btw, the crowd itself is very friendly and they usually know how to party.

At least previously (2022) they sold some 3% Heineken in the stage area. And after it's dark it was quite easy to "smuggle" higher ABV drinks inside to the stage area.

Both statements are true 🙂 

 

(though I personally prefer to ignore that Heineken light thing, they have so much better Polish beers in a tent near the main alley)

The site is unfortunately boring; there isn't much to do. There's plenty of space, actually too much empty space. The festival grounds are really big, but if, like me, you're not a fan of sponsor zones (Orange, IQOS, etc.), the only option is food. There's always been a good selection of food.

I've never been to Rabbit Hole, but my favorites are the Czech Rock for People and the Slovakian Pohoda. They're smaller festivals, but they have much better sites.

Yeah, Open’er is fairly just “as and when” in terms of announcement. The year I went we got Kylie as a headliner plus Interpol and about 4 other bands in the June around 3 weeks before the festival. Very standard for Open’er, don’t worry

Yeah, it happens every year basically. But they should drop some names this week.

I saw that Mumford & Sons announced a European tour, with only two dates in July and then the rest in November. Could they be a potential headliner for July 3rd?

I'd rather say that potential co-headliner alongside Massive Attack on July 2nd. However, these are all headline shows, so I guess they are not doing any festivals this year, probably 2026?

So why doing only 2 shows in Europe in July, maybe festival dates will be announced later

I know I said it's pretty normal for them to take this long to announce, but this year they're really pushing it... I guess they're either waiting for a green light from a big artist or something fell through, and they're working on a replacement.

I'm fairly certain we share a yet-to-be-announced headliner with Roskilde. They still have at least two headliner slots unfilled, just like us.

Yes, that is the normal case. Back in 2014, this was Jack White who played both who announced his tour on April 7th or something around then. It would not surprise me to be him again.

I know it's hard, but you'll be rewarded for patience I dare say. They always put up a line up out worth the money I feel

Haha, yes, I know – I've been to Open'er every year since 2011, so I really get the announcement struggle. What I meant by 'pushing' is the long gap between the last announcement and now. Usually, they’d announce some smaller or Polish names in between, but this time – nothing.

Regarding 2019: you forgot about The Strokes who were announced on April 5, which makes it even worse!

you are almost right, but in 2014, Jack White had only two festivals on his schedule: Open'er (announced on April 2nd) and Glasto! He then replaced Drake at Roskilde (during the festival).
