Train Strikes ?

Haven't labour said they plan to re nationalise the train services..? With it looking pretty much a done deal that we will have a labour government next month, I don't think there is any need to have further strikes. Hope not anyway, have a train booked to Leeds on 25th to get coach down to glasto the following morning.

While I'm in favour of renationalisation - it's unrealistic to think that it'll automatically end disputes. Regardless of who's running the railways, the management will (correctly) want to do so as efficiently as possible, and the unions will (also correctly) want to get the most they can for their members.

Aside from which - the pledge is to bring TOCs back under public control as the contracts come up for renewal so it won't be an overnight fix and will vary by area. Some contracts run until 2032.

unions will want to screw better wages out of a nationalising govt. govts respond better to striking pressure than many private companies do.

I'm just trying to convince myself that my train won't be cancelled as I could well be screwed otherwise. 🤞🤞

Although cancellations due to staff shortages can’t be ruled out I suppose. Getting to Frome this last weekend was an absolute shitshow.

I don't think they're are full on strikes planned but overtime bans are in place so cancelled trains at short notice can't be ruled out 😭

    • I did get a little amusement at the idea that Infantino was upset Trump stood him up for the US opener last night given how hard he's been trying to get in his good books.   Tbf, I thought the Canadian roar at their equaliser was decent volume. Or maybe I just had my phone at a higher volume for it when I watched the highlights this morning.
    • Wonder if they’d ever headline Glasto again.  Would be very different a 2nd time around I reckon.
    • My mate is there now. She enjoyed them a lot but had never seen them before. Apparently there was an injury in the crowd near the end so took about 10 or so minutes to sort out. Hope the person is alright.    Feeder apparently drew a ridiculously huge crowd on the third stage.
    • This was never a surprise.   I'm hoping USA meet and lose to Iran in round of 16, just to really wind up Trump.
    • Watched this this morning -  absolute brilliance -  live show is peaking
