Are we all taking A7X/FOB/QOTSA as cast iron now? Anyone out there still not given up hope that there might be another headliner in the mix? Surely someone can give us a decent alternative to hope for over the next few days at work...?

AX7 is pretty certain but I would not be surprised if QOTSA pop up as a sub. They aren't headlining at either Hellfest or Rock Am/Im. Plus Fall Out Boy not appearing in any other fest announcements yet.

Also it's probably irrelevant but I think have spotted someone on FB (not Lee) who leaked last year saying it's only 1/3 out of AX7/FOB/QOTSA. I'm certainly not taking that as any evidence though.

I'd be surprised (although happy) if it ended up being Avenged and two other headliners and Queens are infact subbing and FoB aren't there at all.

I think you know who I'm referring too btw (I reluctantly popped into the Download official forums and have seen they are active again). But like I said not reading too much into it, was a throwaway comments on one of Downloads FB posts in response to someone posting AX7/QOTSA/FOB.

Anyway....worth noting none of the fests you'd expect Pearl Jam to play (if they come to Europe) have announced yet.

And I'm still not convinced SOAD are ruled out....I think from now on their appearances will be few and far between and a one off show at Download would fit with Serj basically saying a few shows yes but a tour no.

Something like:

AX7 / Machine Head

Pearl Jam / QOTSA

SOAD / Korn

Would be pretty 'strong'.

I said before the 2024 on the Download font looks very Pearl Jam to me 😜

I've seen a few supposed 'leakers' on reddit also saying Avenged are the only one that's actually correct. I know it's unlikely but would be surprising if FoB and Queens were a red herring leak made to hide them having two big headliners

Would be a brilliant booking!

I can deffo see that being the case given last year's debacle (debacle from the fests point of view). And if QOTSA are subbing it wouldn't be a stretch to imply they were headliners to throw people off the scent.

Only thing is people who said FoB and Queens are headlining were also told about the announcement on the 7th which we know is happening. Still hoping the headliner part is a red herring as it's a pretty underwhelming set of headliners.

Regarding QOTSA and that they subbed last time they played. I've seen it mentioned a lot, especially on Reddit, last time they played they subbed so will sub again.

It was ELEVEN years ago.

The headliners already booked that year were Maiden, Rammstein and Slipknot.

They hadn't made the transition from Academy band in UK fully at that point.

They've since done 3 successful Arena UK tours and more mainstream albums and success.

Any other 'rock' act that does that is headlining Download. They aren't doing a package tour like Slipknot did with Korn, they've virtually sold out an entire UK arena tour with some no name supports. Standing went in an instant.

I understand they aren't everyone's cup of tea, but they're absolutely big enough. Doesn't matter what slot they're playing at other festivals in Euro

There's still quite a few tickets available for their tour

Oh and Pearl Jam, they said they would never play Download as they felt they didn't want to be playing a festival with the line ups Download has, they wanted more mainstream multi genre line ups, hence why they've played other Live Nation (and other promoters) UK festivals but never Download.

So don't get your hopes up.

Don’t suppose you’ve got any info on the DL lineup like the old days, Mr Salt?

I don't think Avril and Billy Talent is enough to convince weekend ticket buyers. I was as big Fall Out Boy and The Offspring fan as they come and I wouldn't make the effort to go back a day for Mudvayne, Billy and Avril. I'd be more likely to miss the Friday completely.

Stacked! Beartooth for Babymetal imo.

I don’t know that’s 100% accurate, Vodaphone did leak the announcement but I think Pearl Jam pulled out last minute because they canned the first leg of the tour & didn’t come to Europe until the year after.

Point still stands though, they were booked.

Interesting to note that from the Rock Am Ring FB announcement AX7 and QOTSA marketed as German festival exclusives whereas some of the others as German 2024 exclusives. Machine Head and Kreator marketed as neither. Implies all 4 have German dates other than fests coming up and Machine Head and Kreator might also do other German fests.

    • https://x.com/amirtibon/status/2083054470871535853   Some thoughts on the Gaza agreement announced overnight, which despite my reservations and concerns, I hope will be implemented. 1. Donald Trump is trying to collect "wins" and "achievements" ahead of the midterm elections. His party is entering that election at a disadvantage, but because Democrats may choose weak and unpopular candidates in specific states, much like Republicans did in 2022, there's a reason for Trump to at least try achieving a surprising result like the one Biden secured four years ago.   2. The will to provide Trump such a "win" was an important motivation for all sides involved in this agreement: Hamas, Netanyahu, Qatar, Egypt, UAE and Turkey. All of them hope, each for their own reasons, that the transactional president will remember their role in the agreement and the positive media coverage it has generated and will continue to generate. You can like it or not, but that's the nature of diplomacy, especially in the Middle East, under Trump.   3. Netanyahu and his band of liars in the Israeli media (and the last few suckers in the American media still buying his spin) are already trying to oversell the agreement and present it in terms that contradict the Board of Peace statements and briefings. Of course, the October 7 Prime Minister can't just say the truth on this one, which goes something like: "I'm trying to stay on good terms with Trump ahead of an election here in Israel that will determine my personal fate and whether or not I go to jail in 2027."   4. For Hamas, the agreement is a way to buy time and survive, which is basically the organization's overarching goal since October 7. They lost most of their leadership and thousands of their fighters; they will also, I believe, give up some of their weapons to the new Gaza-based Palestinian government, which is a good thing. But at the bottom of all their decisions is a simple calculation: being able to say, "we committed the most deadly and humiliating attack against Israel since the start of the conflict, and survived as a movement and an organization to tell about it."   5. Hamas was able to say that yesterday, before the agreement was signed, and it can also say that today, after the conclusion of the negotiations. So in that regard, the agreement is preferable to the murky post-war reality that preceded it, in which Hamas was recruiting again thousands of young fighters, holding on to all its weapons, and controlling 99% of Gaza's population, making money off people buying fuel and cigarettes. Changing even a part of that terrible reality, by collecting some of the weapons and allowing progress on reconstruction under a non-Hamas government, is better. It means coming to terms with the fact that Israel under this government failed to dismantle Hamas and allowed its survival even before this agreement was signed.   6. Do I think the agreement will be fully implemented over the next 300 days, as I understand the timeline? I'm highly skeptical. But I'm also asking: what are the alternatives? Netanyahu, in his quest for political survival at all costs, ignored David Ben-Gurion's national security strategy of seeking short and decisive wars, which was based on Israel's unique internal and external challenges that make it dangerous for this country to have long wars of attrition. The result is an Israel that is hated, isolated and denounced around the world like never before, and is totally reliant on the support of one man (TRUMP) to avoid crushing international sanctions. Going to war in Gaza once again based on the same promise of "finishing Hamas," which this government failed to achieve after three long years, would have been suicidal unless Trump promised his full backing. And Trump, for good reasons, can't give such a commitment after his bitter experience with Netanyahu in Iran and Lebanon.   7. For me and my family, these are all very personal, not only political, questions. My six-year-old daughter will start school on the Gaza border in exactly one month, as we rebuild our life in the same home where Hamas tried to murder us on October 7. We've learned over the years to be highly skeptical of premature victory announcements and diplomatic celebrations. When these things collapse under the cynical realities of the conflict, most of those announcing them are not around to face the consequences. Still, I don't see a better alternative to the 20-Point Plan that Trump presented last year, at least not with Israel's current position of isolation and exhaustion under this government. So I have some hope that the agreement will succeed, even partially, and deliver a period of quiet. For us on the border, that would be significant after three years of war and trauma. And maybe in the long run, with different Israeli and Palestinian leadership, this will become a first step in a broader positive change for the region.
