Pilton Coop

concerned

Recommended Posts

My group normally camp around Pylon/Rivermead/Bushy Ground and made decent use of the on site Co Op during the 2019 festival for things like mixers and things to cook on the stove for breakfast. Looking at the map it may only be an extra few minutes walk from the PG A side of the site to the Pilton Co Op, and they will also be able to sell booze. I'm thinking it might be a good option as we will be travelling by coach and will enable us to travel much lighter. Get the tent set up, walk down to Pilton and pick up supplies.

I don't think the Co Op in Pilton was open when the 2019 festival was on, what are the chances of this working as a plan? Will festival goers descending on Pilton be frowned upon? Will security make it difficult if you are clearly nipping off site to buy all your food and booze? I don't really want to turn up with nothing and then not be able to buy any cans....

If the Village Co-op is open during the Festival, then the main obstacles likely to be walking along roads that don't have a pavement, and whether you can get access to the village itself.  Security won't care that you're getting food/drink as that's not restricted by the festival.

Tbh if I was going to go off site to collect stuff, then I'd go all the way and get the shuttle bus to Shepton Mallet - You'd need to pay a fare (7 quid round trip), but that'll be more than offset as it'll drop you right next to a decent sized Tesco and not far from an Aldi, so you'll have a much wider range of options at much lower prices.

I used the Co-Op a few times when working at Worthy Pastures and it is tiny.  I seem to recall it being a really odd shape with limited stock (not being critical here - its a small village shop).

Although it may sound more of a ballache logistically I would strongly recommend you get organised and get up early the first full morning you are there and a few of you get a taxi from Ped Gate to Shepton Mallet and stock up in one of the larger supermarkets.  Four of you in a taxi and take your rucksacks for carrying back in easily.

The taxi costs would be probably almost offset by the cheapness of Aldi / Lidl (other European discounters are available) than stocking up in the Co-Op

Or what Incident Said.

Just get organised and make the effort as it will be way better from a cost - volume - benefit perspective

    • There’s a few in there which could go either way or I’m not bothered if I miss but think that’s now be pretty set.  Few rubbish clashes like Kasabian/Loyle plus Reytons/Pixies/CMAT but I’ll head with the lads to the most popular one.   (And yes no Byrne or Twigs, just can’t into either)
    • I saw somewhere they were advertising Lewis' day as him live on Glagow Green and only mentioned Amy Mcdonald and CMAT as support, 0 mention of the festival  I completely agree this will probably be the last one which is a shame because the first 2 seemed so promising and now its turned into middle of the road rubbish with acts you can see everywhere else  Anyone know if the BBC are covering it next week as it'll be fascinating to see how full (or empty) it is
    • Did anyone catch Viagra Boys last night? A rollicking good set, with a little more free jazz than I expected.   if you’re up early, Walabi is doing a super job in the Cupra Pulse. There till six.

    • They really dropped a bollock on their lineup this year. They went with Richard Ashcroft because he did well as Oasis support - But realistically, you're not getting 50k people in a field to hear the 4 or 5 songs they know at like £70+ a ticket. Can't get my head around the Kasabian booking, either. Finsbury Park was a bold move for them, and yes it sold out, but I think you're more likely to see people make the journey to London if they want to see them rather than Glasgow. A second similar capacity show was always going to be a big ask for them.
