After months of trying, and being around 150,000th in the queue on Wednesday for this weekend’s returned tickets, I finally managed to pick up a reasonably priced ticket for last night, just as I was leaving the office.

 

The show was incredible, and in my opinion even better than their 2022 performances at Wembley. Each time I’ve seen them, they’ve taken the production and energy up another notch. Thinking back to their 2009 show at the same venue, which felt huge at the time, it’s remarkable to see how far they’ve gone since then, the band really is in another stratosphere now.

 

I would definitely have preferred to be there with my family rather than on my own, but I wasn’t going to miss the chance to see them during their 10-night Wembley residency. One thing I hadn’t noticed before was the complete change in demographics at their shows. To be fair, every other time I’ve gone in the last 20 years I’ve been with my wife or daughter, so I hadn’t really paid attention to who was around me. But last night, as a solo late-30s male in the stands, I definitely felt a little out of place!

 

Once this tour wraps up, I’d love to see them take things in the opposite direction, maybe some stripped-back shows in smaller venues, even performing a couple of their earlier albums in full.

Must say, Coldplay kind of feel a bit like Swift - the biggest they'll ever be as a touring draw, pulling eye-watering numbers.

 

The question really is how much longer this goes on under the current format and branding. Second highest-grossing tour, most attended overall.

Coldplay have always shifted to stay relevant, and you could see that last night, younger fans were all in on the newer stuff, while clocks and sparks (my highlights) seemed to miss the mark with a lot of the crowd.

I can’t see this exact format going on forever, but like they’ve done their whole career, they’ll evolve again to remain relevant.

Perhaps. I don't buy the whole end-date line he trots out. They'll just reach a point where they become the Rolling Stones - a dozen or so shows per year, in the biggest venues possible, with a setlist that picks itself. They're kind of getting there already on the latter point.

@Hershamboy I was there last night too. Felt like it was part light spectacle and part concert. Great atmosphere and around us a very mixed crowd but all enjoying. Heard they’ve spent £400,000 per show (if that can be right) on all the fireworks and lights etc. Enjoyed the older songs and the only one I didn’t really know (People of the Pride) had the young couple next to us jumping up and down screaming as it was “their song”. Songs like “We Pray” also sounded better live than I’d expected. Really enjoyed it.

Didn't he back track on the statement about not touring forever in that they would stop unless they could do it in a sustainable way? Seems like they are there with that point, but I can't see them giving up any time soon. 

I think what you've described is the situation they will eventually get too. I could imagine them playing a mini residency every few years again at Wembley, they could have easily done 20 nights without any problems.

Glad to hear you enjoyed. Sounds like a similar experience to me. £400,000 seems crazy amount, but it adds to the whole experience and what makes up the show.

£5 a wristband makes sense, probably why they are pushing for us to all return them.

Hot Chip superb at Troxy. Setlist order a bit odd (closing out with a random cover) but the crowd were right up for it. New song Devotion sounds pretty decent too. 
Over and Over was probably the highlight of the night (Hurache Lights a close second).

Had the pleasure of seeing the marvellous Kate Stables and This is the Kit in the small but perfectly formed Storey Fields Centre in Cambridge last week.. beautiful sound quality 

Robin Kester (Dutch singer songwriter) was an impressive support..

A bit of jiggery pokery with trains, tubes and DLR involved to get there but not too bad…

unfortunately, because of bastard train cancellations into London we got there late (in time for Hot Chip) but missed visiting a couple of decent looking boozers on Commercial Road..

 

A lovely Friday night all the same… took my daughters BF (he had never seen them) and he was impressed by how everyone was clearly so happy to see them… “a great vibe” as the kids say these days 😉

Yeah.. only a couple of hundred in there, with a tiny bar selling cans in reception that looks like it doubles as a storage cupboard…

it was an early show on Sunday (all done and dusted by 21:30) very civilised.. we parked outside and head a 17:30 dinner in the restaurant across the road first..

I think they had to cancel yoga to fit Kate and the gang in.!

my wife is back there next week for a management course (I don’t think either Kate Stables or Robin Kester will be there 👀)
