I've watched/listened to some of it. Think he's doing ok, nothing unexpected. He certainly proportioning blame like others have...I'm actually willing to cut him some slack on our covid response in hindsight.

Are you watching the same thing? He literally said if he looked at the data he was given then he would have acted differently

I'm giving him/them some slack because it is a massive decision to lock down the country, in terms of the economic damage, but also societal damage. I understand why they might try and find alternatives, but sounds like they were just an indecisive mess in those early months, and meanwhile covid was doing it's exponential thing and the numbers coming out of other countries were looking bad.

but Johnson was obviously the wrong man for the job ...he doesn't like hard, detailed work...or at least this sort of hard, detailed work...and he is a liberal to his bones so putting restrictions on people's lives is against everything he is for (apart from free movement between europe and UK the twat).

But would Sunak have been better? Would Corbyn? Obviously Starmer would 🙂

Thought it was already common knowledge. We were going to do a Sweden until prof Ferguson ran his sim city for viruses simulation and we then paniced and locked down. Pretty sure America ended up doing the same thing and locking down on Fergusons predicted numbers.

Corbyn/Labour were calling for more restrictions if not a full on lockdown in the weeks leading up to the first lockdown. They would’ve also made sure more people were looked after financially too.

Boris has just mentioned it 😄

The half a million deaths number was delivered by him on March 16th. On March 23, the UK scrapped the Sweden plan and decided to go the lockdown route.

I think its unlikey any government would of gone against sage which appeared to be a power struggle between Whitty and Prof Ferguson in the run up to lockdown. The more aggressive alternative/fake sage were not formed until May 2020

And that was entirely a political organisation which had very little to do with science and everything to do with political lobbying.  Totally incomparable to real Sage.  Whitty said this himself during the inquiry.

Sadly a few poster around here fell for it.

Yes set up by Carole Cadwalladr who has been completely discredited since by a court case involving Arron Banks

The sad thing is, if Johnson wasn’t so lazy and unfit to lead then we would’ve gone into lockdown earlier (on all 3 occasions) and wouldn’t have had to have been in lockdown for as long. The buck stops with him.

actually had a look, doesn't start till March 22nd...too late.

There were 2 or 3 earlier threads that were called something like ‘Will Glastonbury be cancelled’ which started end of Jan/early February. Like prequels or prologues you could say.
