This post is a great example of the cost of some benefits...

Not only do we give money to people so employers don't have to pay them a decent amount so they get to maximise their profits, we then have to pay people to pay the people not being paid enough by those employers.

I think its just default bat sh*t crazy.

The solution is to pay a proper living wage to people and force companies to do the right things.

I was on WTC while self employed. Much of my work was seasonal such as at festivals and the Royal Mail at Christmas. The most you could receive was 80 quid a week (about the same as dole) but all calculations were done basing your hours at the minimum wage. I can see your point but without WTC I wouldn't have been able to do a lot of my work. It helped subsidosis my work as a counsellor when I qualified before my stroke.

Was just reading about this guy. Sounds like an absolute nutcase. Besides the insane politics he also claims he has spoken to God in visions, is a tantric sex teacher and cloned his dog.

Argentina has long been a basket case. I guess the natural reaction to that must be to elect the oddest person you can find?

It will be interesting anyway. If he implements the sort of pure austrian economics he claims to believe in then when that fails then maybe we can at least point to that as being an example of how all and any attempts at free market economics dont work in the way that folk on the right use the extreme and irrelevant example of the soviet union as to why even moderate democratic socialism cant work.

Oh it will never work. It's all lunacy. I'm seriously out of words for what's happening here. Not only he is a lunatic and most of his ideas are not viable. He will sell every public office. Education, Healthcare, Culture, etc...all gone to private sector.
Not only that but he is backed by the people who still support the military coup of the 70s, who deny the genocide that happened, deny climate change, etc...I mean, libertarians, you get the picture.

Also, whatever works or doesn't work in a latin american country cannot be compared to a Western European country. Completely different contexts.

This is what always happens with fascism, right? Years of crisis, corruption, poverty...then you add weak leaders (our president has been a complete ghost the last year), ignorance and stupidity boosted by (social) media, young votes who are oblivious of anything that happened before their time...and somebody who claims he is an outsider.

I am terrified. And so mad at everyone right now....specially when you think people you love voted for this. I mean, 55%....

Some good news at last from Gaza...50 Israeli hostages released in exchange for some women/children Palestinian prisoners and a 4 day pause. It isn't a ceasefire, there are still a lot of hostages left (although how many are still alive?), but it is something...and at least people are working to get these negotiations going so hopefully there will be more.
