I honestly don't know how to feel. It will be the fucking funniest thing in the world if Truss has to resign. But then won't the economy be even more fucked?

Still hope it happens though.

markets might react postively to her and Kwarteng going.

(and economy looks a bit fucked no matter what)

Gone by end of the weekend?

I reckon they will uturn on some of the tax cuts, and then go from there. Big question is whether bank of england stops with its bond buying thing today, and then how markets are on Monday. They could stick around and say they will postpone tax cuts for now as not the right time etc, but they are sticking with growth growth growth, and just have to see how polls react. I think they're fucked. It is a humiliating uturn for Truss.

Kin'ell. Surely she has to go.

radio4 say she'll be getting a visit from tory elders to tell her to go, penny and rishi instead.

Javid seems a sensible choice. Ex-banker so will probably do what the markets want and steady things.

Bit depressing though. Seems to suggest we may have PM’s with their hands tied behind their backs by the bond markets for potentially a generation until the covid debts have fed through.

we needed the mini budget due to huge amounts going on the energy bill thing, and the economy was already heating up with inflation and rising interest rates...so Kwarteng and Truss decided now would be a good time to do loads of unfunded tax cuts on top of it with no OBR analysis because they reckoned tax cuts are good and will lead to growth and that is all you need to know. If they had just stuck to the energy crisis payment then I expect we'd still be facing a tough few years, but their jobs would be safe. Maybe they could have thrown an energy company windfall tax in there for good measure.

Yep.. apparently Osborne created the obr to restrict any future Labour chancellors and he’s managed to screw his own party. Rishi must be loving this.

Part of the reason Javid went originally wasn’t it? The obr wasn’t enamoured with Boris’s spending pledges though this has taken it to a whole new level. That’s why going back to Javid probably makes sense for the tories

    • Judging by last night at Wembley, Luke Combs should be in the conversation of headliner. The UK is having a moment with country music so I don't think it would be particularly left field either.

    • It feels really busy this year, loads of big groups of youngsters too. Slightly different vibe to previous years I've been. As with Tramlines, they're very chatty during sets and there's a constant stream of them in and out of the crowd... definitely feeling my age 😂   The Quarry stage I think is a lot smaller than previous years - seems similar size to Squid/Leadmill. Some sets have been difficult to get in.   I think I've reached my limit with mid-tier indie guitar bands. There's been quite a few this weekend where I've gone over to see them then walked away after 20 mins. Surprisingly, enjoyed the Fratellis set the most in this genre. Probably getting on for 20 years since I last saw them. Wasn't expecting them to do Yes Sir, I Can Boogie, which was fab!   Hugely enjoyed the Happy Mondays yesterday, and same but different with Radio Free Alice who I saw again on Friday, following Tramlines last weekend. A big run of pop acts today - Scissor Sisters will be fantastic!
