Yeah Johnson was obviously flawed in that he was a total twat, but he also understood the new coalition of voters the tory party had after brexit which seems to be totally lost on Truss.

I would prefer Johnson to Truss, I think she is a disaster (but obviously v good for labour as some predicted!).

no I  just needed to look at how the polling is going which you post at least once per day  ? please dont refer to me as some when you are clearly referring to me ... I’m just glad that people are starting to see in Starmer what I saw in him. I always thought I’d given the chance he’d be able to win people round. It’s not a done deal yet but great progress has been made.

Starmer has done ok...the state of everything and Johnson/Truss/Kwarteng fuck ups have helped a lot...but that is always the same...it was with Blair too.

he was, and at least he understood that there needs to be some sort of redistribution of wealth in this country.

He appointed Gove to levelling up minister...whether that was to damage Gove or to put some serious thought into the matter is another question. The problem was that in the end levelling up meant redistibuting money to deprived areas and less money to wealthier areas...so instead Johnson promised everyone would just get wealthier...somehow...

Hard to know how much was Boris and how much was Cummings.

I dunno man I have massive reservations on whether levelling would’ve led to any tangible benefits.

The wealth was getting distributed but not to the people who need it the most.

It's kind of extraordinary how this has broken out tbf. When the Tories cleaned up in 2019, and even with covid being a very difficult hand to be dealt nearly immediately, it seemed like they have the power to do whatever yet seem to have just got stuck in a self-destructive groove. It's bizarre. I don't even know what the best option is anymore - this new administration looks sunk already, yet another leadership change or election just ups the flux level even further. Maybe there just is no good option at play here.

The last government of national unity, as far as I can tell, was for most of World War 2, with an all-party coalition backing Churchill taking office in 1940 after Chamberlain was forced out. Least so says the Wikipedia page, anyway. I don't know if it's a hard sell though - indeed, for the WW2 example, it suggests opposition Labour and Liberal parties needed nearly a year from the start of that fight to get on board.

Well I'm struggling to come up with many plausible scenarios for how this plays out, so feel free to add to the list:

1. A VonC would need 30-40 tory mps to support it to trigger a GE (tory mps who would be voting to lose their own jobs if the polls are to be believed).
2. An organised rebellion by backbenchers to force out Truss and coronate someone (probably Sunak) to calm the markets.
3. Two more years of listening to JRM play his fiddle while UK PLC burns.
4. Truss says sorry, sacks Kwarteng, installs Sunak (keep your enemies close) as part of a 'cabinet of tory unity' mini reshuffle.
5. err, anything else?

After the 1922 shambles, and her inability to say sorry and instead blame 'bad comms', I guess options 2 or 3 are looking most likely.
