They're in a bit of a pickle...doesn't look good to get rid of her so soon and have yet another leadership election and a new PM....but the polling is a disaster for Truss and her government, all credibility destroyed in that budget and what came after.

the damage will compound over the next year or so, cos anyone paying more for their mortgage than they were expecting will blame the tories.

I'd have one eye on the US election at the end of 2024. You'd of thought the Democrats would of wanted to go into an election during an interest rate cutting cycle as the best way of beating Trump. If that weakens the dollar a bit I would of thought the Tories would want to match our cycle to theirs as closely as possible.

Truss can hope that the economy picks up, maybe Russia Ukraine situation resolves, things are improving by 2024...but things were improving when Blair won that landslide in 97...

The economy had recovered and was booming by the 97 election but it didn’t save him. His reputation was ruined by the Black Wednesday and the UK coming out of the ERM. Voters don’t forget so easily and even if things were going to get so much better it probably won’t save her.
