Thursday arrival

This is Glastonbury no 6 for me but the first time arriving by Coach on Thursday. We'll be on the 5am from London.

Where is there likely to be room on Thursday morning? (I'm usually suffering from going too hard on Wednesday to notice space)

I usually camp over in South Park 2, or Back house. but the thought of heading all that way from gate A to find no space is filling me with dread.

What are the campsites like over by Gate A?

Thanks

Gate A campsites are just fine. Darble is the first one and will have most room. I have stayed in Pylon twice and there should be plenty of room there too, although it was a tad busier in 2017. It's not badly placed for JP, Silver Hayes or Pyramid but is of course a fair way way from the SE Corner. Compost loos at the top of Pylon too, which is a plus. If you fancy something more elevated then there should be room in Lime Kiln just off to the left and up the hill. This will be above the family field so should be quiet. Again good for JP, Pyramid and Lulu's Cafe.

Also at the entrance to Darble there will be campsite steward with an up-to-date map with availability in all sites marked on it. I believe Bailey's which is on the south side is only opened on Thursday so you should be able to camp roughly in the same area if you can transport all your gear to the other side.

I've been camping in SP2 for a number of years, having got tired of the guy rope obstacle course in Paines (formerly Dairy).  There's always space up there throughout the whole festival. If I can get a data connection, I'll update on Thursday am if you want Sweet_pea.

I can see the attraction of just rocking up in Darble/Pylon, having done the schlep up to SP from Gate A in '15 and '16.  In 2016 it was an absolute killer! Worth it for the view though.  Great to sit outside the tent just taking it all in.

As others have said there is plenty of room in Darble & Pylon, but you can still head to the south-west.

Bailey's and even South Park will have room at a squeeze but the best for Thursday arrivals is the green oasis that is Back House tucked between Baileys & Dairy. This one is only opened on Thursday morning and is hidden on all sides by hedges. No through traffic so guaranteed grass even during a muddy one.

Wonderful, thank you! We have always camped there in the past but I confess by Thurs afternoon we are usually well and truly settled in and I couldn't for the life of me remember! Fingers crossed :)

We always arrive Thursday, quite a big group, and always go in Pylon. It's quite good there for Pyramid, Other and JP. A long way from SE Corner, but I always find I walk back from there with something of a spring in my step anyway.

We were on that exact coach last time & as others have said, plenty of room in the fields along the west of the site. After a 5 min walk from gate A we settled in Pylon and had plenty of room around us and some lovely neighbours. It’s a good spot as extremely quick access into Silver Hayes

    • Was volunteering at the Women’s Cricket World Cup at Southampton yesterday. Was great fun.
    • Definitely see this as being 'weak' on paper but could see a few bumps up from previous sets at Download (Don Broco, Neck Deep etc).
    • Very different in terms of time of game,  yet remember how excited I was before the first game in Euro 2016 having grown up not sure I would ever see wales in an international tournament. That day scraped a win against Slovakia and was just happy to see wales score and win at a tournament, little did I know we would finish in the top 4. Hope Scottish fans get the same experience.
