Gate A vs D

Bare with me here.

After a little advice. 3rd time at glasto this year and we've always gone in through gate D and headed up to either bushy grounds or baileys for camping.

Thinking of mixing it up this year and going through gate A and maybe heading to Darble.

Should have arrived by midday wednesday - anyone know what the biggest pros and cons are? My biggest worry is if it rains badly, does it ever get flooded?

Thanks!

What time would you guesstimate getting through gate D if we arrived in the car park at, say 6am?

Gates don't open till 8am and you'd be at the back of the queue of all those who drove down early to take advantage of the carparks opening on Tuesday evening.

Which one? Last couple of years you have to queue down one field and back up another. They won't let you in or out over that footbridge until the queues have gone now if that's where you mean?

I just remember being stuck at that gate where two paths merge. It seemed that 50 people were let through our bit followed by 300 from the other.

Them we had the utter fuck up last year where Gate D didn't open until about 8:30am.  Just bad experiences all round...

Midday wednesday both gates will have light inward traffic. But as Jennings says gate A also has coach traffic who get priority so I'd opt for D

I think at that kinda time it largely depends on where you get parked and where youre aiming for to camp.  Id go to most direct route.  There isnt much of a que anywhere by then (unless something goes wrong - and there is no way of predicting that!)

Ask the Camping Alone thread - apparently it's quiet enough to sleep okay, but fun. Plenty of space but a good walk to the stages.

As a 6am arrival for a few years, D always seems to have some drama or other (overwhelmed stewards, queue jumping, bottlenecks etc) that we made the transition to A.  Seems a (little) bit slower but very straightforward. Camp in dairy, and time wise its 6 of one, half dozen of the other.

D was bullshit last year. Got there at 3am, no one seemed to know what they were doing, everyone queue jumping, not to mention snaking around the metal fences at the bottom of the hill of death with trolleys... Seemed like such an ott way of getting in.

We did A the year before that and while it might not be much quicker it's definitely more straight forward so we'll be heading for A this year.

We camp in Kidney Mead btw.

Thanks all.

D has never been too bad, we've got to the site around 10:30ish in previous years - just 'that' hill can be a bit of killer.

Does anyone have any experience of Darble camping?

Camped in Darble last year and will again this year. Some people say it's too far out but I don't mind the walk at all. It's quiet at night so you can get a decent sleep. It slopes downhill from gate A do I try to camp towards the top just in case we get heavy rain. Wasn't much atmosphere in the camp as far as I could see, however I don't spend much time in the campsite so I'm not best placed to comment.

We did gate D in 2010 never again!!! Always do gate A now despite camping in dairy as just more organised and straightforward imo

Plus always at campsite between 9.30-10am (we arrive in queue about 6-6.30) so not bad really...arrived and hour earlier last year which made no difference won't be doing that again!!

    • If you didn't see melt banana at Apolo. Go see them at the festival. Insane.
    • Interesting, and thanks for coming back to give an update! I've seen that the second stage looks bigger than usual too, looks to be a Serious Stages - Stellar Stage from distance photos.    Seems like sizing wise stages have been scaled up somewhat this year.
    • I see its cancelled now but they did leave it really late to announce plus they are up against Kelburn Garden Party Festival not to far from the festival site.
    • Easily my favourite set of the day.
