Tent Help

Evening all!

I'm looking for a 3/4 man double skin tent for this year.

 

Last year I took at great 6 man tent, but at 10kg it was pretty heavy for me!!

 

Any recommendations? Good height would also be helpful!

I've not used it though!  I've just bought the hype about its heat+light reducing qualities.  Everything I know about the tent was written on that thread before I bought it.

Oh ok!! I'll do some research. I want lightweight, watertight, and space!

I went for it so I can sleep in a bit longer after being out all night.

Any chance that as a possessor of the (hopefully) magic tent, you can test and report back to the forum?

Especially the light reducing stuff, obviously it's not the weather to really learn anything about heat reduction.

I had the Vango Berkeley 400 before I donated it last year. Good enough head height to stand up in slightly crouched and stood well in downpours at three festivals. Weighed about 8kg.

The lighter version with less head height would be the Vango Alpha 400 which again, I've never had a problem with i bad weather (but we all know it's gonna be a scorcher this year anyway )

Probably yes, but not until it gets hot.  I'll probably do a trial run, but I don't want to do it until my lawn is less muddy.  Hopefully I'll get round to it before July!

Like a few other people, the hype got me and I bought one (the 3-man popup version). sloseph had last year's model (which had the 'Fresh' reflective outer but not the dark inner tent. He said he noticed it was cooler, although I must say that these kinds of observations are very subjective and should be taken with a pinch of salt.

What's the budget? Those Quecha's look good from a staying cool perspective but can definitely be bettered in size to weight ratio, lighter weight tents tend to use more expensive materials though so it's a trade off in terms of cost.

Do you mean you tried it and it didn't seem any cooler?

No but unless you have two otherwise identical tents and you measure the temperature in each, you're guessing whether it's cooler than it would have been without the 'Fresh' outer layer. Decathlon have apparently done some kind of test and come up with "7 degrees cooler at 30 celsius" or something similar, for what that's worth.

Yeah, that's the figure my local Decathlon manager told me after contacting the Quechua designers. I've also seen 17C in an article, but that sounds like bollocks.

As for what it's worth? It's worth an extra £15 over the standard 3 man pop-up tent to me if it delivers an extra hour or two of rest.

EDIT: Out of interest, did you get that 7C from the other thread (I.e. from me), or do you have another confirming source?

i definitely found it cooler but as you say that is a completely personal opinion everyone deals with heat differently

the only thing i will say is that i kept some bags of cider in a black rucksack all weekend and they were still pretty chilled on Sunday evening

my only criticism is there isn't a lot of headroom, i only break 5ft 5 on a good day so it's of no concern for me but if your a normal human you might want something with a higher roof

I've owned many tents and this is by far the best festival tent I've used. its £100 now but i got it in a sale about a month before the fest for £45 in halfords. Weight is very good, space is amazing with 3 separate compartments.
