In this category i have found that you sometimes get what you pay for. I had the same issue spending lots of money over the years on cheaper things that failed me (i.e go-outdoors macs and regatta).

Some of the cheaper things are fine BUT I think it depends on whether you need it just for the festival or year-round. I walk to work 2.5 miles each day, so something waterproof AND breathable (arriving to work damp is not a good look) was necessary and I was happy to make an investment.

Those rubbery regatta style coats are fine for a few hours at a festival - they'll keep you dry at the expense of trapping sweat in and making your clothes damp and as a result this can make your body cold.

If I could I would buy Arcteryx (gortext) new. I got one second hand from my boss and it was amazing- the seams, the pockets, etc. She had had it for 3 years and it lasted me another 3. When it came time to replace it, the cost was eye-watering so I settled for Berghaus. Got in the January sales for 50% off!

Gortex does take maintenance, but you need to wash coats anyway. I love that it is lightweight, BREATHABLE, and waterproof, instead of something that makes me feel like I am in a sauna.

Soapbar disappeared completely around the turn of the century here, oddly the only place I've seen it since is Glastonbury, for sale from the guy with holes in his hoodie at the stone circle

Like other folk have said, you get what you pay for.

Ten years ago I shelled out £140 for a Berghaus Paclite Jacket. I done me for many a festival, as well as hill walking, etc. Sadly the taping over the seems finally gave way last summer, so I invest in the current equivelant from Berghaus.

I think I paid around £130 for it online, so its worth searching around for the best price.

As well as the waterproofing you'd expect for that sort of money, it has some decent vent pockets on the side of it and a pouch that makes it easy to stash away in your bag when its not required.

Same here in the midlands. You can thank a quiet green revolution going on in spare rooms up and down the nation for changing the landscape and moving the economy largely out of the hands of organised crooks and importers and into smaller networks of growers and their mates. I haven't purchased weed from someone who buys it to sell on at profit in nearly a decade.
