Waterproofing Spray

I have recently got this decent pack-a-way day backpack, http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B009T17T96?psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=oh_aui_detailpage_o01_s00 which while brilliant, from the material/reviews I'm worrying might not be fully as waterproof as it claims, so thinking a spray could be useful?

also read a lot about people re-waterproofing their tents which ive never bothered with before, but might be a good shout, any tips?

 

EDIT: it's not going to rain, this post is just hypothetical of course..

Fabsil and Nikwax are the two tent reproofers that are most often recommended. Did mine in 2008 with Nikwax on what was then an 8 year old tent and haven't had any problems with it at all since then.

 

A tent reproofer is probably too heavy for a backpack, but Nikwax also do water proofers for clothing. Probably Fabsil as well. Aldi did cans of water proofer a few weeks ago for £3 - if there's one near you it might be worth a look to see if they've still got any in stock.

Nikwax tent and gear proof, works perfect. You can use it on most fanbric items, but not goretex.

Avoid fabsil, it has a solvent in it which dissolves the glue on taped seams of tents and jackets

Yeah, I can recommend Nikwax. I invest in a big bottle every year for my tent, boots & poncho and I've always been waterproof.

A wet Glasto is shit if you're not properly prepared for it.

Used Fabsil, which is good, but over the years it does gradually un-glue the seams. Will try Nikwax next time - never seen this in Blacks / Millets - only on line?

I can't quite get my head around these sprays. what exactly can they waterproof? I mean, you can't just spray it on a tshirt or jeans etc can you?

They have some in my local poundland atm.  I thought this stuff cost an arm and a leg.

With some, while it won't make it water proof, it will repel water. I'm not 100% on how it works, but it basically covers it in a thin water repellent film so the water cannot soak in the material.

Nikwax on everything!! I had a shitty primark "shower proof" jacket last year with a few coats of nikwax on it and he help up well until I pushed my luck and stayied out in a constant down pour then he let water in. 

 

But I've given my new jacket & missus' fuax leather bag a good coat of it for this year, not that its going to rain.

Fabsil is really a water repellent than a proofer. Does seem to make the difference in a wet year though...

Bought some tarrago nano protector from Amazon ages ago. No idea why I bought it, now looking at everything I own in a creepy "shall I spray it" new light....anyone used it before? I think it repels water..

I think my wellies are definitely waterproofed by the fact I still have last years mud on them..... !
