I did that only the match I went to was in Madrid.  I said I had to leave the venue of a conference I was helping out at a little early for a family anniversary party but I'd be back in the next morning.  I was given begrudging approval to do so, but in reality I sped to the airport, had arranged with Go (the old BA cheapo) to sit in the front row, legged it through security, got in a cab and made it into the ground literally about 3 minutes before KO!  I then managed to (a) receive a phone call from the guy I was working for that rang with a foreign beep (b) get seen in the crowd and (c) have my flight delayed back the next morning that meant I didn't get to the venue until 11am.  I was also disgracefully hungover.

Not sure my excuses cut the mustard being totally honest.
