Glasgow Summer Sessions 2015

Agreed. They won't have a clue who she is. She will not get the respect she deserves.

Nowhere near it. Great booking but for the wrong crowd.

I wonder if maybe there was another headliner booked for this day who dropped out? But they were stuck with Grace Jones supporting. It's not even one of those out there support announcements that might just work. It seems a mismatch of artists.

I just hope the neds don't treat her too harshly. She's on my bucket list of people to see so they better not put her off Glasgow for good!

I'm 55, going to see Paolo, am fully aware who Grace Jones is, don't like her or her music. Agree she is wrong for this audience but that doesn't mean that she won't be treated with respect or badly treated. Personally I will not be watching her. Calvin gets Ellie Goulding and John Newman... we get Grace Jones :fie: Age has got nothing to do with it, either hers or the audience's.

Stuart 1000 - I think it is you who needs to show respect. Neds???

Gave her stuff a proper listen when she got announced for No. 6. Just shockingly bad. Always willing to give a chance to folk who get announced for places I'm going to.

She doesn't do it for me. Then again, I was saying the same things about London Grammar last year, and stuck around to watch them and got totally blown away. So who knows? If nobody is clashing with her, I'll likely stick about.

Do not understand this Grace Jones booking at all.

I kinda like Paolo so was thinking of going if there was good people subbing, but Grace Jones? F**k that.

Her music is garbage and it's the completely wrong crowd for her, practically anyone would have been a better booking.

seriously, if it was 'bad' (as opposed to not your tastes) then you listened to the wrong albums.

'Warm Leatherette', particularly, is superb (tho perhaps sounds a bit aged now).

I'm far from sure I'd go and see her tho. She looked gawd awful in the snippet I saw from that Jubillee concert a few years ago.

Obviously I meant it wasn't to my tastes. It's me posting my opinion. Hence it's about my tastes.

Did this really need pointing out?!

In the case of Grace Jones, yes it did. Some of her stuff is actually bad.

But as I say, some of it is proper classic stuff, and is what gives the reason why she's still kicking around today .... to pop up where you're going and annoy you.

You are in for a shock. I suspect this may be your first and last GSS.

  • 3 months later...

The View, Soak and Tuff Love announced as the other supports for the Paolo Nutini gig. My worry of Grace Jones not being well received appears to have been confirmed.

I fear the worst. If you were at T for Skunk Anansie playing before The View you'll know what I mean. A real class act heckled by ignorant idiots.

You think DF read this and thought "Let's book The View to go on before her!"

In other news, there were posters for this all over the place at T. I don't think it's selling too well...

    • I’ve had a good sleep and I feel weirdly zen about the whole thing.   My first Primavera, so not the greatest first impression. I guess today couldn’t be any worse, right?   Thoroughly enjoyed Men I Trust and Geese. Cupra is a beautiful stage and the crowd seemed fun, friendly and engaged.   I think it probably could have gone even worse, considering how dangerous the crowding felt at times.   Anyway, we go again.
    • Brighton centre is a weird old venue for the Mary Wallopers - a great band, a really good live spectacle, and its a saturday night as well which sets it all up - but its at the bloody Centre? a charmless nonsense of a conference centre? Brighton dome is a ten min walk away and is so much nicer a place to see bands its ridiculous!    ah well, i'll probably mosy along anyways . . .
    • So bad honestly. I get that bad weather happens but their communication was non existent. When you're managing crowds of tens of thousands of people, it's just not good enough. I left when Massive Attack was cancelled (the first time) and it genuinely did feel unsafe trying to get out. No one knew what was going on, people still sitting in the ground when there were hoards of people trying to leave, no crowd management at all...   I've been to PS enough times to know sometimes you need to just roll with it but this was way worse than "the bar queue was 30 minutes long".    Today will be better but still feel super disappointed.
