Spiders & T Owners

Bisque

Recommended Posts

I'm finally ready to jump back into the world of owning another spider.

Would love some stories & advice on what to get. Looking into the standard sub adult Chile/Red Chile Rose or pushing it a bit a Brazilian Pink which is a fair bit more expensive & bigger.

Any advice would be awesome. I know I won't be disappointed with a Chile, no idea what tarantula I had when I was in Malaysia but it was brown, docile & about 4" leg length.

Also where is best to buy from as with any pet I would be willing to travel to get decent service & advice.

How does spider compare?

Fine although I was nervous about eating the abdomen but they shrivel up after death/cooking so was fine. They were prob 6" tarantulas. Tastes nicer than an emporer/big scorpion.

Anyway I was looking on advice for a pet not a BBQ.

I don't understand people who keep spiders! I can't think of anything worse than having a tarantula loose in my house!

Rather have a spider than a load of mossies & flies. Not that my flat has either.

Snake takes up too much room & my flat mate won't look after a bearded dragon so thought I'd get another T. Means I can go on holiday & not have to worry about it except if it's moulting.

That is an excellent quality in a pet!

I shall watch this with interest, as my son will probably want a pet some time soon, and he quite likes creepy crawlies, particularly spiders.

Can't offer any advice, though, sorry.

Hello Katster.

Why do they make fantastic pets? I'm at a complete loss to understand. I'm very much mongoose on this one.

Cheap, quiet, no fur (I'm asthmatic) and very easy to look after (I was 16). They are not unlike a gerbil or other small pet like that in that if you take them out of their cage (vivarium) they want to explore. Mine used to love going out in the garden in summer and he would also curl up on my lap for a sleep. He never bit me but he did bite others so he definitely knew who I was and he was so tame I could put my hand in and he would slither up to say hello. I was gutted when he died and I will probably keep another at some point in my life.

We are restarting our aquarium today, I had it all ready and cycled before Willow made her arrival but we decided to turn it all off and empty it again as it was running with no fish in and costing us for no reason. It's probably a good job because we'd naively placed a 170 litre tank on a flat pack build it yourself Ikea cabinet.....

I think I could cope with a snake, though it depends how it feels as I've never handled one. I didn't know I was scared of stick insects until I had one on me, and as an arachnophobe, it felt like I always imagine spiders would feel in my worst nightmares.

Spiders - I can't think of them as having paws, no matter how furry they are.

    • Geese playing for 1:20 instead of just an hour was a lovely surprise. The energy was great!
    • Oh well that's why then, I assumed it was still the same. Thanks!
