This is true for all things apart from gingers!! It is, apparently, socially acceptable to shout "ginger" at a ginger person in the street.

Makes me very cross.

I'm in the underground rap group GWA. I call out ginger to my bro-in-law and his youngest daughter, because we three are of that genetic persuasion, but yes, I wouldn't take that from a non-ginger.

My handle is inspired by LL CoolJ (ladies love) - LAITCarlosj (ladies are indifferent to). Yo! Laters.

Been looking a Glastonbury line up and wondered if this is possibly the longest Album title ever :-

"In the 7th Moon, the Chief Turned Into a Swimming Fish and Ate the Head of His Enemy by Magic"

By Kasai Allstars

Chumbawumba although a crap band did produce the following album title

"The Boy Bands Have Won, and All the Copyists and the Tribute Bands and the TV Talent Show Producers Have Won, If We Allow Our Culture to Be Shaped by Mimicry, Whether from Lack of Ideas or from Exaggerated Respect. You Should Never Try to Freeze Culture. What You Can Do Is Recycle That Culture. Take Your Older Brother's Hand-Me-Down Jacket and Re-Style It, Re-Fashion It to the Point Where It Becomes Your Own. But Don't Just Regurgitate Creative History, or Hold Art and Music and Literature as Fixed, Untouchable and Kept Under Glass. The People Who Try to 'Guard' Any Particular Form of Music Are, Like the Copyists and Manufactured Bands, Doing It the Worst Disservice, Because the Only Thing That You Can Do to Music That Will Damage It Is Not Change It, Not Make It Your Own. Because Then It Dies, Then It's Over, Then It's Done, and the Boy Bands Have Won"

a crap band? a bit harsh! Rather liked them in the poll tax days before before their hit - still like 'On eBay' find it ear worming occasionally:

I have been trying to work this out over the last few days, so I thought I would ask you lovely people.

If I was to say the N*g**r word I would be called a racist, but how come in quite a bit of music it is openly used?

Very confused slodge.

Ok slodge, apologies for the delay, and also if this turns into an essay!

Here's my take on the 'n' word subject.

Some people feel that the current use of the 'n' word by black people, whether in music or everyday speech, is a way of reclaiming the term, and to some extent 'diluting' the negative effect it has had in the past.

It is also thought that the different spelling that has become common (with an 'a' instead of 'er'), marks a distinction between the old, offensive term and the new, 'positive' version.

Others, however, feel that the word should be consigned to history by all races, as keeping it in use, by any race, perpetuates a sense of 'difference'.

There is also the argument that, even with a new spelling, the word sounds the same, so the spelling is somewhat irrelevant, considering it is used far more in speech, than in a written context.

So, that's a pretty simplified version of the pros and cons.

Personally, I'd say the ideal scenario would be if everyone could move away from 'categorising' themselves or others. I know that's idealistic, and never going to happen, but maybe something everyone could aim for one day.

Hope that all makes sense!

i've had a little think on this and i think i've cracked it

now this may be my sleep deprived brain working but i can't think of a sentence you would need to use it

what i'm saying is i can't think of a reason why a white person would say it without using it in a derogatory term

apologies if i'm talking nonsense, i'm really not with it

Admittedly I've only just dived back into the forum but I couldn't see even the merest hint of Germans on this page and started to get a bit worried.

Appease the Gods, Efesters.

ah the Germans. i remember, i think. didn't end too well.

and i don't mean the war.

still, for old times sake

germanbeer-banner2.jpg

i think i'll be safe with that one.

    • Iran are winning. If US aren't going to do the full invasion thing, then they may as well admit defeat and do what is needed to get the strait opened. Iran obviously have decided they can take any pain and stick it out as they have all the cards with this Hormuz thing. But obviously Trump can't admit defeat, and Israel just want this to keep going...and maybe it will carry on like this till after elections in both US and Israel towards the end of this year. God knows how the global economy will be by then.
    • All kicking off in N Ireland, all aided and abetted on videos that get circulated on social media and Elon Musk and Tommy Robinson telling people to take to the streets. Social media needs regulating same as publishers, if they have algorithms that push whatever to people then they are effectively publishers anyway. The problem is just going to get worse and worse.
