Weather 2014 review

In a word - mixed.

Certainly not as bad as it might have been but we've had better. Of course, we've had much, much worse.

Wednesday - Roasting. I got sun burn from falling asleep outside of my tent. Looking around, I wasn't the only one.

Thursday - Greyer and a few showers. Probably marginally better than Thursday last year (it felt like the rain lasted longer then)

Friday - Having the stages evacuated was a new one on me. Like a much-scaled down version of the 2005 storm. The storm itself wasn't too bad but required stages to power down (not sure if it was true but we were told on Weat Holts that there had been a lightning strike on site). Not top bad at all once it cleared (all of the evenings seemed to be pretty good)

Saturday - Ground was definitely getting worse for wear by now and the fairly strong shower in the afternoon was something of a drag. Once again, it brightened up well enough.

Sunday - Despite threatening to rain on a couple of occasions it never seemed to break (at least not where I was stood). Felt a little cooler in the evening. Most of the ground had dried out nicely.

Overall - Not an especially wet or muddy one (no doubt that will surprise/disappoint some newcomers who didn't live through the horrors of 2007, 2005 and 1997. All told if I'd been offered it on my way to Somerset I'd probably have said yes as we had plenty of sunshine and it didn't feel like I spent much time watching bands in the rain.

Fair assessment?

It was fine really. Ground held up quite well all things considered and the work done with the bark chips made a huge difference. Only "complaint" would be, once again, Silver Hayes was like the somme - needed more bark/straw or something. Bit sketchy getting across The Park too, but was sat on the grass on Sunday so not all bad.

I think the ground would have held together but for that Friday downpour which was brutal.. The site had dried up until that point and really after that the showers we had just added to the mess. Certain parts on Sunday were fine and some hard work (defo Silver Hayes was a Weston). Bit like 2011 maybe?

Could have been a lot worse..

It was worth that storm just for the rainbow over the pyramid stage! :)

The rest of it was just fine by my. Even when it rained it wasn't cold and there was enough cloud cover Saturday and Sunday to make it comfortable all day long. Would've taken that when I saw the forecast before leaving last week...

Ground was alright till Saturday night (got a bit 2011-y), but the weather in general was so unpredictable! If you were going out for a prolonged period of time you needed sunglasses, coats etc. all of it :P

Out of interest, have the stages ever been shut down for weather reasons before? Was so gutted seeing Vintage Trouble at West Holts when they had to go off, but definitely a 'memorable' set.

We was at the Pyramid when the downpour happened had signs come up saying they may have to power down... Half way through Rudamentals set the Pyramid got sturck by lightening. Hence everything being shut down..

I've never seen rain as large as the rain in that storm, Rain drops where golf ball size. I had to cover up my cider as it was being watered down!

Watching the electric storm pass the Haim set was awesome, never thought I'd see fork lightning whilst sining along to Haim and stick horn fingers in the air... but I did. It gave me something to watch instead of the bassists face.
