BBC covering more this year

It seems according to the G website that the Beeb will be covering more of the festival this year. I wonder what that means, perhaps more of the stages, like the Park and West Holts or smaller stages?

They covered The Park and West Holts last year, and didn't stop banging on about Chic all weekend. Maybe the non-music stages?

Could be Acoustic, they have a few good acts this year too. They seem to show everything in their mini docs over the weekend but as they are said to be covering more then surely it must be music stuff.

I care selfishly I suppose - because it will encourage even more people to apply for tickets.

The event is largely used as a corporate jolly by many BBC staff and presenters though.

I would agree with you Pinhead as I have a ticket and have been lucky for the past five fests, but if I was not going and couldn't get as far away from the coverage, i.e a holiday at the same time then I'd probably watch it, look at the line up, clashfinder the whole thing. I guess I'd want wall to wall coverage as well

In all seriousness, the coverage is going to happen, the presenters are twats, these things are given. I actually like the fact I can go back and watch past sets that I've loved or missed, I have no problem with them.

We on this forum like to complain about them bigging up the shitters, Lily Allen, Kasabian , Ed Sheeran and Jake Bugg will all be fawned over by the Beeb like they're gods walking among us, that's just a more visual aspect of the fact that popular music is for simpletons and it's at Glastonbury. I don't really expect Auntie to do anything differently there.

What I do object to is the enormous camera booms that swing out over the crowd, horrible horrible things, cannot stand them. Get rid of them. Being filmed walking around the site is no picnic either, keep it away from me.

And I did encounter Nick Grimshaw last year, nobody deserves that.

The more the bbc cover the more mainstream the festival will get. Purely from the amount of people watching and wanting to go. Makes ticket day that much more worse also

They do that anyway don't they? Pretty sure i've seen some sets at festivals which the crowd have been on the screens and the performance was not recorded?

I don't really mind most of the coverage, it's good to get home and watch some things back again, especially where there's been a clash and you at least get to see a bit of what you missed.

Only thing wrong with more coverage is, it will give them an excuse to have even more beeb hangers on onsite.

Did have a bit of a laugh with the bbc in 2010 though. The walkie talkies we had somehow ended up on the same radio net as the beeb. All you could hear was things like "going to camera 2 in 3,2,1..." etc. They didn't appreciate a few "Broadsword calling Danny Boy" over the net at random times.

No it isn't stupid, it's the most pointless complaint ever. If you're going to be at the event you don't need to care about the coverage... because you're at the event.

Pointless complaint added to the "Not as good as it used to be" file.

Good news for those of us who love Glastonbury and want to re-watch from home but I do wonder how much more coverage of one festival the license fee needs to fund.

My one "objection" from last year was the stupid swoopy camera at The Park, which was irritating, distracting and obstructive.

That aside (and apart from the way in which it is becoming Glyndebourne, The Proms and Ascot with some rock and/or roll for somewhere to be seen) not bothered.

And this matters because...? As long as they're not burning down your tent or standing directly in front of you on stilts during your chosen headliner each night then what difference does it make to your experience?
