Soul and Funk Tent

The funky/soulful bands tend to be spread out and they tend to have quite a few cross genre bands popping up in random places. I don't think the Sonic stage was the best place for the Family Stone last year but a jazz/soul/funk/blues tent would have been perfect.

The lineup is devoid of funk this year- we've been spoilt lately with The Family Stone, Bobby Womack, Stevie Wonder, Parliament/Funkadelic, Kool and the Gang, James Brown, Roy Ayers- the run had to come to an end at some point unfortunately :(

Reading over that list makes me realise how fortunate we've been- I've got to see a lot of my all time favourites at Glastonbury, more than I ever thought I would. Sure there's lots of others I'd still like to see (EWF, Mandrill, Bootsy, War, etc- but I don't think they even play anymore!), but seems that time is almost up for funk..

Craig Charles in Shangri la was fantastic last year!

Another vote for that motown party in Williams Green after the Stones had hobbled off stage, Quality tunes. I'm really hoping it returns this year. Although the DJ was a bit uptight, she started cursing at the audience after the gig because people were signing for more music.

It's probably a great line-up for yer rock fans, but afficionados of yer souls, funk, jazz roots, reggae, African and other non-Western musics maybe haven't been catered for quite as well as in previous years. There's obviously a few odds and sods here and there, but it's very far from jam packed on that score.

I feel the same. The dance line up is OK but I'd say pretty average. However "dance" music seems to be disliked but many on efests.

Maybe it's just me but I feel the change from Jazz World to West Holts has detracted a lot from the non-western/mainstream music.

I will definitely be down there from Craig Charles and will check out the other links when I get home. :)
