First announcement for 2014

First lineup announcement for 2013 was made on 14 December, so might we have something to get excited about before Christmas??

I noticed that Green Man haven't made any announcements yet either, so I'm not overly worried.

Wish it would come soon though. The early announcements always allowed me to swot up before the event.

Green Man never announce till later, and they have replied on their forum as to why/when. End of the Road just ignoring facebook messages, just utter crap communication skills.

Incidentally, I was chatting to Steven Adams at the weekend and asked him whether he was planning on hitting the festival circuit with his new material. When he said probably not, as it was too knackering, I said, "What? Not even EOTR?". His replied that were under a new regime so it was unlikely.

There certainly has been a huge shift in how approachable the festival organisers are and how much communication there is in the past few years, and this would explain a few things.

Doesn't take away from the fact it's still the best UK festival out there, but these little things can put people off.

Now that's interesting - have Simon/Sophia handed over the reins? Keeping a sense of continuity whilst still remaining fresh is always going to be difficult (especially if EOTR keeps looking to expand), but I sense the original ethos is being eroded. It's not going to be the best festival out there (which it definitely was) unless the organisers remember why people loved it so much...

Anyway....new cover image on Facebook, Afghan Whigs announce a new album, Nick Cave finishes promoting at Sundance, it's all working out for a big announcement this week I reckon.

Can I dream?

You might be right, announcement imminent and it could be Nick Cave, that would cheer me up no end!

I think the big announcement was that they were too busy announcing that there was to be no big announcement about NDH thus limiting the time available to make a big announcement about EOTR, unless the big announcement is that they've changed their cover photo.

the 'ethos' has always seemed the key reason to me that it has massively punched above its attendance / weight. perhaps they'll announce their ethos, ahead of any announcements?

It might just be they've not managed to secure a headliner yet and won't make an announcement before landing one. Ticket sales don't seem to be doing too badly that it needs an early big lift. (Always found it odd that one of the last big festivals of the year is often one of the first to make an announcement anyway...)

I've heard from a reliable source that no steps will be taken to book any acts until the third tier tickets sell out.

and just as importantly, what quantities they order and will they have something like an orderly queue system or just freeform random service again.

If there is any truth in the rumour that EoTR is under a new regime, and S&S are no longer involved, that would be very sad news indeed, and potentially a disaster for the festival. Things have a habit of not ending well when the original inspiration and creative driving force behind niche businesses moves on. And, let's face it, EoTR is a niche business with a fantastic reputation. There wouldn't be a shortage of people queuing up to make money out of it, if it were for sale.

I think the line-up, as and when and if it's ever announced, will pretty much tell us what we need to know on this.

Yep, getting a bit nervous now, have a bad feeling about this. As RRR says, the lineup announcement will tell us more - even if it is two months later than usual. Maybe it'll be just as good as ever, or maybe it'll include Haim...

I think, if anything, this "new regime", if it is in place has been for the past couple of years that has seen far more eclectic line-ups than the Americana-heavy line-ups of the past. I have no fear.

This is still a 10,000 punter festival, so the big chart hitters are unlikely to be bothering the stages.

Pleased don't read too much into my conversation with Steven Adams. It's all speculation.
