Lou Reed Dies

Spookily enough, I was playing that very record whilst we were having lunch today. It is an old Sunday favourite in my house (I blame the first track!).

No more new Lou Reed records, they were always interesting. :-(

I always have played it on a Sunday too. I wonder how many others there are out there who do the same?

This album was my first Lou Reed experience in 1974, at the tender age of 12. Momentous, and definitely high in my list of truly great albums.

Went to see Suede tonight at Barrowlands. Was on the train going between Edinburgh and Glasgow when the news broke. Cried, and felt the train was trapping me in. Over a man I'd never met in my life. Saw him in 2011 at Hop Farm and it was a huge deal for me (I'm 23). I imagine this is how people felt when Lennon died (albeit not in the same circumstances, but just as shocking) he was mine.

"Sunday Mourning" indeed. A true great. 4 great albums with the Velvets, one. two or a few depending on how you view his solo career (Transformer is classic though). Someone who didn't give a fuck what people wanted. He just did his own thing. And split opinion right up to the end with Loutallica.

His music still sounds very fresh and exciting. Because its real. The music industry would be in a much better state if more people had his attitude.
