Newquay

When I was a teenager everyone went to Newquay for late May bank holiday - there used to be Run To The Sun that weekend, but the last one was this year. There also used to be an annual surf championship over that weekend, not sure if that still happens, not been there for a few years now. I expect there will still be a lot happening that weekend and a lot of local show their rides etc on the seafront.

But depends what you're interested in checking out. The first weekend in June is the Royal Cornwall County Show.

Anytime of year there's usually live music at Berties, and live stuff at the Beached Lamb. It's busiest/most expensive during school holidays.

as i can imagine it would be, and I know i would love it, but some fuddy duddy has put a spanner in the works and I doubt i'll be able to convince the missus otherwise. plus at £200+ a night for a family room, it wont be cheap, and cries of "we could go abroad for that" will be almost deafening.

I went to Newquay once and found it depressing - only being beaten by Blackpool where I once made the mistake of going for a stag do. I guess it depends on how old you are and what you are into. If you want Ayia Napa then I'd suggest going at the time the exams finish in the summer. If what you are after is a bit of misery then I suggest going out of season.

I live n Cornwall and avoid Newquay most of the time, particularly during summer. If you want a busy party weekend with lots going on the Boardmasters week is probably best. You can go to beach sessions which are actually pretty good and they don't cost loads. Different crowd.

I went week before board masters this year it had a good vibe. A bit much for my liking on the weekend (as I was there with my other half for week away) but not too much if going out is what you are going for.

It was pretty busy in terms of beach/sunbathing but we managed to stay away from crowds.

It's quite run down in places but isn't everywhere these days unless you are very lucky?

Depends what you want to do, but my favourite places in the South West are Totnes (a bit hippy dippy) and Dartmouth (lovely micro climate and often sheltered and warm when other places feel the chill).
