What about Jay-Z? He's relevant still, kinda.

And he could bring Beyonce on stage lol

Does R&L's organisers/ bookers etc still have the kind of money in the current fest climate to get Jay-Z and Beyonce? I mean hell when Paramore lost the sound at Reading it went all Kumbayah at a caravan BBQ.

Oh aye. I forgot he existed.

No Beyoncé.

I'd be surprised if they couldn't get Jay Z considering they got Eminem who plays bigger places in the UK

I agree, Eminem seems like a much more difficult booking than Jay Z.

Eminem barely tours, and Jay Z tours alot. So i'm surprised they've brought back Eminem but not brought back Jay Z since.

Eminem has more crossover appeal than Jay Z

Well that is one of the reasons

Is crossover appeal even a thing for R&L any more?

Do Macklemore & Ryan Lewis have cross over appeal? Does 50 cent have crossover appeal?

Yes.

Yes. Yes at the time ten years ago.

Edit: actually 50 Cent might not have had judging by his reception.

What about Watch the Throne? They're intending on releasing a new album at some point, double the well known hits and less likely to get a Kanye rant

Don't think that's at all likely mind

Think that's something that's been hinted / suggested but never actually confirmed.

Kanye will be too focused on his new album I reckon, I think Jay Z might be taking a break with Beyonce though, they both have toured alot over the past year.

I can't see Jay Z being in the frame for next year at all to be honest. Kanye will be active though...

Did anyone read what MB said about FR opening a similar festival to R+L in mainland Europe around R+L time? Might be an interesting prospect if it can breathe some life back into the late summer circuit and help secure some bigger acts.

Remember Orlando calling in the US though? Got cancelled after one year.

I think the main issue though is the lack of touring acts. I don't think having more festivals would encourage more acts to tour.

No I don't and I don't see the relevance.

And of course it encourages more acts to tour around the time if they can get more paydays to make it worth doing.

Me neither. They never brought that to a festival did they? Price would probably be astronomical.

No they didn't, technically, but Kanye did join Jay-Z at Hackney for a few WTT songs which means it's not entirely impossible. If they booked someone like Foals/The Vaccines to headline one of the other nights they might be able to afford it. Not gonna happen so I don't why I'm justifying it :P but it'd definitely be an interesting booking

That's why I used the words "intending" and "at some point" rather than "they are" and "next year"

    • Pretty much all festivals lose out on major artists because of production limitations though. Glastonbury is no different to most other festivals.  Lots of acts can/will adapt their tour production to suit festival stages if they want to play them, but some acts with stage designs and routines just don't want to adapt, and would rather just stick with a rigid, well-rehearsed production and take the money for their own gigs, whether that's a lot more than playing Glastonbury, or slightly less than playing some other festivals (but with added complications). Trying to adapt the stage, layout, access to b-stages etc to accommodate a single headliner on a Friday and then having to change it all around for a Saturday headliner isn't really a goer when most headliners can just easily adapt their show to stay on a main stage, if they're so inclined. They have a year to figure out how to perform a song on a main stage and ditch a few dance routines out on a b-stage if they really put their mind to it. It's not that difficult......
