Rock Werchter 2014

But another reason not to expect Eminem: Pukkelpop 2013 was his first time playing Belgium in 12 or 13 years, highly doubt he'd suddenly drop by twice within one year. Especially not twice at a festival, as I imagine Eminem fans aren't all too keen on spending a whole day at a 'rock' festival. Plus there's the fact that only once there has been a hiphop/rap act (sub)headlining at Werchter (Snoop Dogg in 2005), and that there has been quite some negative/mediocre buzz after Eminem's Pukkelpop show.

Nah I don't agree on that Pearl Jam thing. It could just be the case that the Sunday headliner couldn't play the Staurday, it doesn't necessarily have to be a bigger act than Pearl Jam. Anyway, Eminem is pretty huge, isn't he?

Like I say, I hope to God it is Muse, but I'm not gonna get my hopes up.

The sunday headliner is clearly not announced yet since it would have been announced by now (unless it is Muse or the Foo's ). Worst case scenario is that KoL, Editors or Linkin Park will be the headliner. It think one of these comes into play when all other options lead to nothing. I just think if Werchter weren't confident about contracting a big band on the sunday, they would have played save and ask PJ to close the festival. I don't believe PJ cares that much which day they'll play (they've played on sunday before).

I think the chance is higher they'll anxiously try to get U2, Rolling Stones or like Rage Against The Machine than booking Kings of Leon or something.

I can't see KOL or Editors happening again. Then Editors would be headlining 3 years in a row, and KOL would be 4th time headlining in past 6 editions. Even for one of the most repetitive major fests around it would be an overkill.

If the plan b isn't Linkin Park/Jay Z/Eminem, I can see them upping Snow Patrol/The National to headliner status (the way they did with Editors as plan b in 2012), combined with a strong dance act (The Prodigy/Deadmau5/possibly Kraftwerk).

In other news: Jack White implicitly confirmed he's releasing a new solo album in the next months.

Unrelated to who is playing, but I was curious what happens at Rock Werchter after the headliner on any given night finishes their set?

I've only been to Glastonbury and their dance villages open up till early morning. Does Rock Werchter have something simile? Or does the festival close for the night and everyone heads back to their campsite?

Sorry off topic but it'd be good to know.

I don't get what that first bit means...

What I'm saying is, for example, if they did have Eminem as the fourth headliner, and Eminem could only play on the Sunday due to being busy on the other days, then he would headline the Sunday and Pearl Jam headline the Saturday. This logic would work for any possible headliner. They may not have had free choice over which headliner plays which day.

Yeah sorry I wrote announced but I meant booked. The 4th headliner wasn't booked yet, because it would have been announced by now. So that is why I say it is weird that PJ plays the saturday if they weren't confident about booking a good act for the sunday. You would expect they would just book PJ for the sunday in order to avoid having a band like KoL, Linkin Park, Editors or Prodigy to close the festival.

    • It was awful during Father John Misty and I was close to the front. People just shouting and laughing their f-ing heads off about nothing in particular and being louder than the bloody stage.
    • Other things I noted yesterday, away from the obvious…   Positives: - an extra water point towards the back left of the main stages has appeared, which I believe is new for this year (and was much needed) - handing out free ponchos was a good touch  - caroline were fantastic. I’d never been in the Auditori Rockdelux before, it’s a wonderful venue and a great venue if you fancy a more chilled out environment  Negatives: - the talkers. I know it’s always bad here (and most festivals nowadays) but f**k me people wouldn’t shut up yesterday. I wonder if it was partly as a result of people being at artists they had little interest in (due to rain limiting their options), although it wasn’t great during blood orange. We’ll be making an effort to get a spot nearer the front for anyone we particularly care about over the weekend  - not enough staff around (and the ones that are there are largely useless). Most other festivals have them everywhere and are happy to help
