When you tell them you are going on holiday to Glastonbury?

Is it weather related?

Drink related?

Drug Related?

I would do a poll but got a bit foxed on how to do it, if someone could that would be great, ahem NEIL ahem, cheers

I do get fed up with the most common one which is always weather related. Its the negatives rather than the positives, lt would be nice if they said, who are you most looking forward to seeing play, what part of the festival do you love the most, what about the food? only if you come across another person who has been do you get positive enquiries. after all if someone is going on holiday, I wouldn't say, hope the airport doesn't go on strike or hope you don't get robbed as I've heard this can happen  !!

People who speak to me don't generally ask me if I'm going to Glastonbury until I tell them. It's sort of, "what are your plans for the summer?" Oh I'm going to Glastonbury.

Then it's usually:

1. Have you been before? - answer: no

2. What bands are playing? - Rolling Stones, Primal Scream, Public Enemy... (then mention a few bands I know they've never really heard of)

3. Then there's a comment about the weather.

4. Then we talk about the cost.

5. Then we talk about the size of it.

6. Then we talk about the alcohol and the drugs.

A lot of the people I call friends have the same Jack Dee-ish/sarcastic/miserable in a happy way diposition about them as I do, so generally whenever I talk about Glastonbury (or any festival), the overall level of enthusiasm I get from them - because they usually aren't going - is quite low. The basic conversation will last about 2 minutes tops. I'm not the sort of person who hangs out with a lot of overly gregarious people so its not like I'll get a conversation out of them, not that that bothers me because most overly gregarious people talk out of their arses anyway.

Alot seem to go a bit misty eyed and talk about when they went in 1985 or something like that.

The utter suprise/comtempt when you say your taking young children

All combined with a total miss-understanding of what the festival actually is....................

Saying that my mum who's 80 this year always watches it on telly and says how she would like to come, its a shame they dont do day tickets for older ladies to see what their sons have been getting excited about since the late 80's

References to the weather/mud/rain ... hippies ... usually something about taking children ("braver than me") .. and then a nice surprise when someone says they'd love to go one day too ... and then the extra bonus when someone's said they've been in the past and you can have a Gbury conversation.

First it's a guarantee it will rain for five days and be a mudbath. Then it's the headliners followed by confusion when I say I'll only be watching one of the three on the Pyramid Stage. I get a few comments about toilets and showers and how hideous it must be to camp. Nobody yet has asked me WHY I love it so much which is probably a good job as I wouldn't shut up.

    • It would be piss-easy for a bot to manage, though.
    • I've heard that ticket sales for other events that use the same system have included the question 'are you still there?' on each window/browser you have with a place in the queue. If you don't confirm you are, it'll assume you're not and that place will drop.   I've no idea if Glasto/See will adopt this, but it would be challenging to keep on top of with many windows open.
    • People who're struggling are already priced out, so I don't think a bump in price will affect who attends. There'll still be a cross section, leaning young. I also think they'll do a soft breaking of the £400 ceiling, keeping the ticket price just below but having postage take it over. Next year the ticket itself will be over that threshold.

    • Not sure if this has been mentioned but new La Roux album out November - was meant to play in 2020 but hasn't found her way back onto a lineup. If any excuse just to hear this absolute banger on the fields next year!
