Questions about trains

In 2011 we drove down, this year we will be getting the train. We arive aroumd 7pm on the Tuesady, how long will a taxi take and where will it drop us off?

Presumably the taxi will have to take you to the drop-off point, but the shuttles won't run on Tuesday. What are you planning to do on Tuesday night if you don't have a car with you?

Due to being a teacher and not being able to leave work until 3.45 Friday I'll be getting a train from Paddington at 4.35.

Advance trains seem the best bet as cheaper, combined with a rail card.

Is it a case of getting as soon as possible or I've read that 12 weeks before is cheapest?

If I go to train line it shows the standard price no advance option.

Any help would be grateful. (Split tickets doesnt make a difference from London)

I didn't think you could queue in the car parks without a car? Not that I'd want to!

We will have our trusty camping chairs and a box of beers...We arrive in the car park around 10pm last year and that didn't feel too bad, so not much longer than that really.

The idea of spending the night in the car park inside a car sounds like torture to me, never mind being sat outside for 12 hours!

Fair play to you for the commitment to getting a good camping spot I guess but it does sound like a mental plan.

For me, it's more about avoiding the crowds than it is about the camping spot - and avoiding the nightmare scenario of standing at a train platform watching trains come and go which are so crowded I can't fit on. If there was any other way to do it, I would. I guess I could arrange a taxi to the showground early on Wednesday morning, timing it to arrive before the first train.

The trainline website offer to email you an alert as soon as the cheap advance tickets become available - I've used it before and it's rather handy

Those alerts are really handy, just don't buy from them as they charge extra fees.

Train is such a tiring and uncomfortable way to travel to Glastonbury. I've done it twice and I wouldn't recommend it if you have an alternative.

I don't really understand the need to get there the night before. 3 times I have arrived in the afternoon and not had any problems queuing to get in or getting somewhere nice to camp. In 2010, Oxylers was pretty empty when we pitched at about 1pm.

Don't FGW release a special timetable for Glastonbury? I've emailed them to ask when it's coming out, but what's been the experience of others?
