Gennys and petrol supply?

Ok, so we're thinking of supplying some power to our campervan pitches via a small and very quiet generator which will obviously need a steady supply of petrol. We're clued up with the safety aspects of petrol etc but will we get any further than than the security check on the Tuesday?

Pretty sure you can't take generators in.

not to sure old son ......i reckon yourd get the genni in but not sure A if security would jump on you to put it away and B as you say petrol not really the best thing in confined camping spaces plus how do you intend on having enough ..seems a waste of time going in and out and if you take loads in your self then less space for beer ummmmm

Gennys not allowed so I have heard but it is our irst year in a cv so wouldn't be able to tell you if they are not bothered

Rather than risking taking a gennie and then it being confiscated, why not take along some spare leisure batteries for the small amount of power you'll need at your campers. It's not as if you will be spending lots of time there.

People do run them in the campervan fields regardless of the rules. You can always here them especially in the mornings. Doesn't mean its right. Just telling it as it is.

I'm fascinated to know what it is that you are planning to use the extra power for? Lighting? ... your camper vans should do the trick. Cooking? ... your camper vans should do the trick. Keeping warm? ... if your camper van doesn't do that then either feel really sorry for those thousands of people in tents or jump around a bit.

Any external petrol will be an unnecessary (and potentially unsafe) source of unnecessary (and potentially unsafe) source of power.

To me it's not a question of whether you can get away with it rather a question of whether you should be thinking of doing it in the first place.

The decision is yours.

They're really big on fire safety, so I doubt they will let that slip.

Last time we went (2011) there was a Camper (not a caravan) that had one running in the mornings. It was about four pitches down from us. No one seemed that bother about it. We were in the east fields in E17.

Thanks for all the replies, we've decided to give it a miss. We have plenty of battery power amongst our group so no need for the added luxuries.

I used a genny at V fest once. No-one was bothered. Not sure if they're banned there though ?

Why on earth would you need a genny? We were there Tuesday to Sunday in 2010. Trickle charger was enough to keep everything going and charge my phone as well. Fridge runs on gas, cooker runs on gas.

And then there is the issue that they are not allowed anyway..so I think you made the right choice.

I use a solar panel. On site for two weeks and never run out of juice.
