Nick Cave was headlining his particular stage and the crowd were appropriately buzzing for it.

As I posted on the other thread his NSFW version of Stagger Lee always goes down a storm, here's some crowd video I found:

In terms of "headlining", Primavera Sound works a little differently as they introduce big gaps in the main stages at different times so that the crowd moves around efficiently - sounds weird but it mostly works. So the end of the park where Nick Cave was on, he was the headliner on that stage, but that finished at 00:45 and the festival went on until 06:30! Of course after midnight, as you would expect, there is a lot more dance-oriented music on, so afterwards you get people like Crystal Castles, Hot Chip, DJs etc.

2. Surely we've all had enough time now to remember that the music from when we were 14 doesn't sound as fulfilling these days (in other words, what debate are we having? Listen to one quarter of a band who were important to you when you thought Melinda Messenger's boobs were the height of romance or see someone who has consistently challenged his audience and produced excellent music throughout his 30 years in the business? Smashing Pumpkins release a new album and the debate is whether it's any good. Nick Cave releases a new album and the debate is whether it's his best).

3. Russy, what took you so long? HD was always the best album (just!).

4. Best ballad? Well, without wanting to repeat any of the excellent choices proposed thus far, how about two beautiful cover versions:

Both as beautiful as their respective originals.

i'm wavering on HD being the best album after running through the whole lot on sunday in the sunshine in my garden, while reading the magazine! I simply cant pick one.

speaking of that wonderful world duet, that Bsides and rarities album is fantastic. I reckon that wouldnt be a bad place for a newcomer to nick cave to start.

as for the october gigs, I got tickets to both. Sunday I'm taking the other half and we'll get drunk beforehand, monday I'll go alone and studiously watch it sober.

I'm looking forward to the monday gig much more!

Henry's Dream is probably my favourite, but that's probably because it's the one I bought first, the one I got when it was released and my introduction to him. Great run of albums then, Boatmans call, murder Ballads etc. I really really like Nocturama too, even though nobody else does really. Right up there with his best.

Can't really get on with Orpheus' Lyre or even Dig Lazarus Dig. The new one is really good though.

I think orpheus is just too long. You could put together a really good 10-12 song album out of it, but there are 5 or 6 songs on it I skip every time.

Lazarus is my least favourite album they've done, but I still like it. Funny that it was pretty much their most popular album! It's always the way

edit, I like nocturama too, I actually might rank it higher than no more shall we part. I think that album gets a bit samey towards the end

haha I love bring it on. That was a minor hit too wasnt it? I'm sure that video was on mainstream music programs!

oh my lord off no more shall we part is one of my favourite songs. And god is in the house and hallelujah. By the end of the album though you are crying out for from her to eternity type track :lol:

cant really remember that tour to be honest, but the worst tour I've seen was the orpheus tour, I though his voice was a bit off form and the backing vocals got annoying

That magazine has made me remember how completely obsessed with him I used to be. No question I would have got tickets to both dates then. There are actually three dates - I'm going on the Saturday with friends but fancy going to one of the others alone.

although i'm probably going to regret it as it'll make my decision to see the Pumpkins even harder, this thread has sparked my love of Cave again and so i've just downloaded his entire discography which i will attempt to penetrate over the next few days. Henry's Dream is / was my favourite and i haven't listened to it in bloody ages so going with that first

      I guess we'll just have to wait until videos of the shows go up, but the fact that the standing is also greyed out still suggests to me that those sections just sold out out before the others and a blue block just be like 3 tickets left, it's still not concrete proof they never went on sale and if they were never on sale why would they not make it even, if 414 wasn't on sale then you'd think 409 wouldn't be either

      I don’t think the festival automatically ‘need’ to have a female headliner if you have strong female headliners on the Other Stage (which I reckon will be Rosalia and Phoebe Bridgers), perhaps a female legend (praying for Annie, will take Cher), and a few female/mix gendered subs on the Pyramid (maybe London Grammar, The xx). From what I’ve seen of Sabrina, her team prioritises the pay day and I think she will be doing Wembley over Glasto weekend.   One thing I’ve noticed is a lot of the suggestions would be first time headliners and I can’t work out when the last time was that the festival had three artists top the bill that hadn’t topped it before? It seems to be something they like to do to make sure they have a ‘safe’ headliner that will land well with the masses. Plenty of names in that hat that could step back up next summer and should/could be about: Billie Eilish, Adele, Foo Fighters, The Cure, Radiohead, U2…hell, if Beyoncé is really planning to release a ‘rock n roll’ album to complete her Renaissance trilogy, Glastonbury would be a great place to ‘kick off’ that campaign for her.   And there’s always the Rihanna rumour. Her husband (I think) said this week she’s in the studio.
