The post office, in their wisdom, have decided to put up their prices, so that it would now cost £3 more to post a calendar (2nd class) than it did at the beginning of the year. They've more than doubled the price.

I can't see so many people being willing to part with that greater amount, and so the whole thing has become an economic impossibility.

Ah well, it was good while it lasted.

What about making some kind of online calendar available?

Ok so maybe printing off an A4 version won't be quite as good as the full version, but it would save on costs and people could just use their own glossy paper/ink if they preferred for a donation?

That's a good idea, I'll give it some thought. :)

Boo! :( I love my efestivals calenders!

What about one of those sites that do them as and when people order? (I'm thinking something like Spreadsheet) or do they take to much for themselves?

another good idea, thanks.

I'll defo look into that one. It might be the case that the delivery costs (which is the main problem) via an online service is a fair bit cheaper than I get in my local post office.

Ummmmm ... unless I'm conveniently overlooking the bleedin' obvious here (which is always going to be a distinct possibility !) the latest RM rip-offs may not be that bad  Whilst they've conveniently chosen the size thresholds to force all typical A3-ish size envelopes into the medium parcel category  the calendar would fit within the small parcel dimensions providing that a suitable envelope was available.

The last e-fests calendar envelope I have lying around was 445 x 368mm and with a total weight <1Kg would now cost £5.20 (medium parcel) rather than the £2.20 that it actually cost to post. It's a similar problem for the standard C3 (459 x 324mm) envelopes, they're just a tiny bit bigger than the new limits. However, providing that you were able to use an envelope 45 x 35cm max (which is still somewhat larger than the calendar itself of course) it could be posted for £2.60.

The problem is that such an envelope doesn't appear to exist ... but it's perhaps only a matter of time before someone produces a suitable non-standard size envelope to get around the new and totally unreasonable RM restrictions ! Alternatively, it's nothing that Mr.Stanley-Knife and his old mate Mr.Parcel-Tape couldn't produce from the 445 x 368mm or C3 envelope if absolutely necessary although I do of course realise that time is also money and all that :P It may be worth considering a large diameter tube but I suspect that they're way more expensive than the envelopes are unfortunately. Here's hoping some manufacturer resolves the stupid problem RM have deliberately created with an off-the-shelf solution sometime over the next 6 months :)
