Swap him and The XX round, that way all the Radio 1 listeners can have their evening at The Pyramid and I can see PiL>The Smashing Pumpkins>Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds.

Nice one.

I suggested this a while back. Petition anyone?

I was watching the Julien Temple Glastonbury film last night (essential watching for everybody in my view), this Nick Cave performance in it really stood out for me.

Nick Cave/Smashing Pumpkins is potentially a nightmare clash as I've haven't got round to seeing either of them before, I'll have to make the call on the day if that's the way its going to be.

Not sure what being age has to do with it? I'm 30, have been a fan for around 10 years and he's released around 4 albums in that time plus 2 as Grinderman. He's a very relevant artist.

Pil into Pumpkins into Cave would make my festival. Do you think it's Nick's choice or the organisers to have him on Pyramid? Not sure how these things work.

I remain open minded about the new one, but recent Primal Scream tunes worth writing home about are pretty few and far between - and that's recent as in the last decade. But then I don't especially rate Give Out But Don't Give Up, either. Too many ballads.

as with all music you either like it or you don't. I dont have a survey to hand but I know speaking to people I dont know many who listen to M&S. On the other hand when I rant on about how much I dislike the artic monkeys (And i do!) i usually get some contradictory response!

I am not sure how these things work, but I know the other year Doves were offered a high-ish slot on the pyramid, which they turned down and requested to headliner the JP tent instead, and their wish was granted, so it seems the bands do have some say in where they play.

Whether or not they are offered several slots and they pick one I dont know, but I guess it varies from band to band.

Yeah I get that, Mumford would certainly get a very negative resoponse from my group, but as I replied to russy I had them down as a band who are extremely popular (looking at their extraordinary album and tour sales) amongst both youngsters who listen to mainstream radio and middle-agers who don't really have much preference and just like to hear inoffensive and pleasant noises, and therefore entirely suitable as Pyramid headliners (given the apparent struglles they had finding a third headliner).

yeah, clearly Nick Cave is a contrary bastard at the best of times, I think he probably revels in it. Also, you know, it's a high profile spot for him, why wouldn't he take it? Finally, it depends wjhat mood/phase the band are in, angry fucked up blues, stately ballads, flat out anthemic rousing stuff. One of the reasons I love Nick Cave is he's capapble of all that within a single set. If he gets it right it could be a triumph, gets it wrong, well, what's he got to lose?

As for the other stuff, this board might not likr Mumford, but they are fucking huge at the moment. There's no mistake with them headlining. Big big booking and that field will be fucking rammed

agree with all that, as much as I despise everything about mumfords - from the music, their toff upbringing, the w*nky clothes they wear, their ironic haircuts and their smug fat faces, I understand why they are headlining. The only alternative band I could think of who were "current" and might have headlined is florence and the machine.

and I despise her for EXACTLY the same reasons listed above.

As for Mumfords, I don't dislike them. It's hard to dislike something so middle of the road to be honest. Mumfords up at the Acoustic with a real ale in hand on a sunny afternoon would be really enjoyable (hell might even chew on a bit of straw). As a headliner though, not for me. I put them on a similar footing to Jake Bugg. I am looking forward to seeing him in a daytime slot as a warm up for the day. I do think Mumfords are more of a Green Man type headliner than a Glasto Pyramid headliner.
