Let's be honest, how many music-y people are still as nice as they used to be after 10 or 20 years of fame? Heck, how many non-music-y people are still as nice as they used to be by the time we reach our 30s and 40s?

I got into the flaming lips with the soft bulletin because their bleak music matched my mood at the time, so I suppose I've never really seen Wayne as an uplifting messiah, so what he's like as a person doesn't really bother me (up to a point) I'm sure there's plenty of stuff he could criticise us for.

Anyone see these last night? or the other gigs this week.

Incredible show. Probably the most trippy lights/effects I've ever seen, Absolutely dazzling. Amazing sound and the best bit was steven drozd going on drums for race for the prize. I have never seen drums hit like that before and the guitar solo on feeling yourself disintegrate was something else. I think he is the most talented individual of of his generation.

Spot on setlist too. Never thought I'd ever see abandoned hospital ship live! Who needs ronald jones...

Yeah - it was a good gig, let down (perhaps) by the fact in Edinburgh it was the last day of the holiday weekend so the crowd were probably suffering a bit from 'Back To Work Tomorrow' syndrome and with the house lights on a lot it was noticably a bit less euphoric than might have been expected.

I had thought the tickets were a bit pricey, but you can't say the money wasn't up on the stage.

Yeah he told us about the cover album. Also, fair play to Wayne, as he told us that they'd been in Manchester the other week playing with Miley Cyrus, causing lots of mock booing, but he just smiled knowingly and said 'it was fucking awesome'. I love how they just do whatever the hell they like.

The only reason the Edunburgh gig won't go down as my favourite Lips gig is probably because of to the crowd. Felt like I was the only person into it at times. Static crowd during Race For The Prize. I would love a new Lips live DVD with the current stage show because it's probably going to be another few years until I see them again.

The crowd were appreciative and all - they just weren't going absolutely crazy. I'd include myself in that - I was knackered and feeling a bit fluey, so I was pretty motionless as well, no matter how much I was enjoying it.

It won't go down as my favourite Lips gig either - particularly given the unassailable position that their show at the Queen's Hall 12 years ago pre-Yoshimi has in my memory. Now *that* was a show.

That and their Glastonbury show in 2010.

Glastonbury '10 was bloody brilliant. Hard to top my favourite band playing at my favourite place - but the first time I saw em was in 2003 in Australia and I didn't really know a thing about them: I just rocked along at a festival and fell in love within about half a song!

Seen them six times, it's never been anything below excellent. Even the low-key Terror tour a couple of years back was brill.
