Everyone seems to keep saying The Vaccines will headline eventually but I just cant see it. They got big quicl off nothing other than NME hype. Theyve got some alright tunes but theyd have to do something very different before they could make the step up.

i agree with both frank ocean and pabh, both have the potential to go huge

i think the vaccines will headline at some point, could be in the next couple of years if they take a gap from touring, create some anticipation,

The Black Keys and QOTSA will headline no doubt at some point,

Florence, QOTSA, You me at Six, Paramore, Maybe Gaslight Anthem?

So hard to predict but Florence i see as pretty much definite, QOTSA - really depends on success of the new album (may do a Bloc Party and get an underwhelming reception), and the other 3 all need that killer album like most headline bands seem to have, which briefly puts them in the limelight as 'the band to book' that year....

I think most of the bands mentioned in this thread are going to have to do something incredible to meet your expectations. Pretty much all of them have got as big as they're gonna get, and I can't see many, if any of them breaking through that glass ceiling, particularly Paramore and Youmeatsix, can't see them getting booked any higher than they already have been.

The thing is, most bands don't climb to reach headliner status nowadays, they're already there. The lifespan of an act is fairly short, and if they haven't got big enough to be considered after 2-3 albums, they're unlikely ever to. It's bands like Mumford/FATM who are probably headline size but only have 2 albums that are 'future headliners'.

That said, R+L is taking a slight change in direction. I reckon we could see electronic/dancey acts headline in the near future, which will open up another set to the currently shrinking pool of potentials.
