Just gonna point out here (I'm NOT defending him), that it's innocent until proven guilty and not the other way round. And if he is innocent, then what you're doing is called defamation and is illegal.

If he is proven guilty, throw the book at him but until then, be careful with what you say. If innocent, he has every right to sue you and/or efests.

If it's true, then it's disgusting. I think we need to be looking at the wider picture; being that why is this happening so much here in the UK.

If the guy is innocent though, then I feel for him, I could think of nothing worse than being branded a "nonce" & it's so easy to be persecuted off the back of one allegation, particularly in the rock community, this will do his career no good, even if it turns out to be false.

and on that basis I've amended the topic title.

Someone in the UK is being arrested each week over child abuse now, since Jimmy Savile was declared a paedo, they're naming more. Apparantly the police are investigating over 50 celebs with it

yep, I know there's been some high profile arrests recently. I'd also guess that there's an awful lot more that goes on (not just around Savile) that remains undiscovered.

And that was my point. Just because there's been a few high profile arrests, does it mean that it's more prevalent in the UK than other countries? Or is it merely that at this moment in time it's big news in the UK, and that other countries have abuse happening at the same rate as the UK but we don't hear about it?

I was responding to someone whose post suggested that abuse happens at a bigger rate in the UK than it does elsewhere. I've no idea if that's true or not, but I can't see any obvious reason why the UK should be any worse than elsewhere.

Yeah, I don't doubt we're going to see another 10+ celebrities named & shamed over it in the new year. I can imagine a few people who could probably be involved in it actually. It's typical UK though, one big scandal happens & then there's an echo effect where similar scandals happen constantly afterwards.

Racism is another example of this, in football one player was charged with racism & now every single week someone claims they've been racially abused or the police say they're making inquiries over racist abuse.

I wonder how many rock stars are guilty of rape(sex with under 16s) in the last 50 years by sgagging an under age groupie.

Its scandalous how the media can destroy peoples reputations/lives when it has not gone to court yet.

Innocent until proven otherwise.

But the media haven't said that he's guilty of anything. They've simply reported that he's been arrested and charged. They haven't made judgement either way.

I also think in certain cases, I can understand them naming people who have been arrested, such as in this case, and the Savile cases. When you're dealing with very young children, it's a lot harder to make people possibly involved come forward for many reasons. If you've got a 12 or 13 year old, who only knows someone as a famous rockstar, it can be very hard to get them to come forward if they think that it's only happened to them and nobody will believe their word against a famous person. (Of course I'm not suggesting anything other than what Watkins has been charged with, I'm simply explaining how I understand the naming of people in cases in certain circumstances).

Again your not getting my point, its not the journalists that will make assumptions its the public who will do that for them. For example the original poster who called him a nonce, I am sure folk like that dont really care if he is proven guilty or innocent.

Will the female name be made public if hes found innocent? Nope didnt think so.
