'Glasto'

I usually call it Glastonbury in conversation, but when texting or posting to people who are Glastonbury regulars I often just call it G. Glasto does have a slightly self congratulatory air to it for me, I don't know why.

An english guy i met out at Burning Man last summer seemed a little put out that another brit had turned up to what is pretty much an all american affair. He repeatedly went on about how he used to go to 'Glasters', and kept on saying 'Glasters' as many times as he could, to make the point that he knew all about it.

Hadn't the heart to tell him no-one actually calls it that any more.

Plenty of local residents still call it the Pilton Pop festival.

I don't mind 'Glasto' at all, I say it myself, but for some weird reason people saying 'Glasters' really bugs me. Don't really know why.

Could well be. I've also seen 'glasto' used as a hashtag on Twitter.

well it all depends in which situation the word Glasto comes up and its been in use donkey years and was well in use before I joined this forum in 2003.

Only the Old Etonianians refer to it as Glarsetonberry. And we know what happened to them. Bless

I've so far resisted using Glasto as it grates on me too but I used it in a post yesterday....... and now I feel a bit dirty!!

I won't be using it again!

Imagine 150.000 people all with the same mind set as we (most of us) have. Imagine the march towards the stone circle an hour before sunset wednesday/thursday evening. carnage!

Let the newbies / i was there when it was cool / red trouser wearing brigade / glamping glorias, get on with it and call it whatever the f**k they like. It all boils down to YOU getting the best / most out of it whilst still being considerate, caring and loving towards your fellow GLASTO goers.

At the end of the day i know What Glastonbury means to me and what i want to get out of it. They could call it "jimmy saville's playground" for all i care.

Have referred to it for years as Glasto so will continue to do so.

its only a word as some one has said when your talking to some one its mostly Glastonbury but when you write it its nearly always cut to glasto ..i dont like this glasters though

I'm sure referring to the festival as 'Glasto' is quite new. Don't think we used the term back in the 80's or 90's, could be wrong though.

Not that it makes the slightest of difference but is it a newish term?
