Tent Suggestions

Was wondering if anyone had any cheap suggestions for tents? We are trying to possibly get a 6 man one before the start of next year to see if we can get a decent price on it before they go back up in price in time for festival season. Sleeping bag suggestions would also be welcome too :) because the one i had at T in the Park was crap!

For festivals you don't need a great tent - any old piece of toot from the likes of Gelert or Coleman will do. Make sure it is reasonably waterproof - the charming 16 year old in Millets will quote you numbers - and make sure it has a bath-like built-in ground sheet and is double skinned. A porch is handy, but being distinctive is probably more useful. I use an old Coleman that my step-daughter used to use ten years ago - at Bearded Theory this year I'm half convinced I wasn't targeted by tent thieves because my tent looked so old and crap.

Sleeping bags vary a lot. In late June a 2+ season synthetic bag should do; go for 3 season if you feel the cold. Snugpak are good and cheap. Just as important for keeping you warm is what you sleep on. An insulated mat of some sort is very handy - either a foam mat or an inflatable with insulation - as the sleeping bag gets crushed where you lie on it and provides no protection. As weight isn't usually an issue and as it isn't going to be that cold you don't need a mummy bag - a rectangular bag will do just fine.

ooh tent porn!!!sarcastic.gif

I had the vango Omega last year with 2 other mates, served quite well but proved to be a nuisance lugging all that weight we couldn't check-in on the plane.

Any suggestions on a good lightweight 2-3 berth (for 1 person) tent?

I'd definitely go for a three-season sleeping bag as even in late June it can get cold at night, and then try to get a self-inflating rollmat (we got some for a tenner each in Go Outdoors a few years ago although I understand the 'proper' thermarest ones are better but cost about £70! If you've got a branch near you, Go Outdoors is brilliant - the staff actually know what they're talking about and they usually have a range of tents pitched up so you can get in and get a feel for just how big / practical they are for you and your kit. I'd advise having a porch or a spare 'room' for muddy boots (not that there'll be mud of course :)), chairs, beer etc., and try to get as high a hydrostatic head as you can. You'll definitely need a double-skinned tent or you'll die of condensation on hot mornings!

Any recommendations for a two man tent with a wee extendable awning or similar you could fit a couple of camping chairs in? We've got a 2 man dome tent the now which we've used for festivals before, but obviously we'd like to be able to sit in our chairs and chill and enjoy a refreshment even when the rain is on.

Had a look online but it seems most that would fit our needs are way to big - i.e. 4man or larger.

For a 6-man tent you could get three of these:

http://www.tesco.com/direct/tesco-2-person-dome-tent/200-0497.prd?pageLevel=&skuId=200-0497&sc_cmp=ppc_g__&gclid=COis993p87ICFQ_MtAodAmQAtA

and arrange them to face one another.

They are cheap and the total weight is only 8kg; much easier to carry than one of those HUGE tents too. Add in a fishing brolly or a tarp and you've got you own little camp ground.

When are the festival trollies coming back in to stock? Thank you please :-)

hello again booboo.:)

I don't actually know. I don't run anything about the shop myself, it's instead done for me by the professionals.

There's an email address on the camping shop website (I forget what it is) where your question can be answered.

    • Not necessarily but it should be, Download have a habit of messing it uo when others get the bookings on point. Good Charlotte I doubt are playing 3rd down and that too 3 that day while dreamy is too strong. I think you'd have one another day to help sell weekend tickets. I also doubt Papa Roach play.
    • Here's a bit of a wild stab, few placings may be off, and for all I know half of these won't actually be touring next year, but screw it, it's a bit of fun   Pyramid: Sabrina Carpenter, Phoebe Bridgers, TBA (Florence + The Machine), Garbage, The Last Dinner Party, Interpol, Alex James Britpop Classical Other: Chase & Status, Teddy Swims, Clairo, The Kooks, Zara Larsson, Kingfishr, Sports Team, Orbital West Holts: Robyn, Baby Keem, De La Soul, Deltron 3030, JID, Dua Saleh, kwn, Daniela Latila Woodsies: Bonobo, Darkside, TBA (Tame Impala), Laufey, Warmduscher, Wednesday, The Lottery Winners, The Royston Club, Florence Road Park: Patti Smith, Super Furry Animals, Slayyyter, The Cardigans, Skye Newman, Kelly Lee Owens, Teen Jesus & The Jean Teasers   Pyramid: Harry Styles, The xx, Richard Ashcroft, The Pogues, Jessie J, Sigrid, Travis Other: Rosalia, Sombr, Mitski, Alex Warren, Holly Humberstone, Cat Burns, Pale Waves, Yard Act West Holts: Basement Jaxx, Elyanna, Clipse, L’Imperatrice, Nation of Language, Jim Legxacy, Yazmin Lacey, RIP Magic Woodsies: Suede, Chvrches, Bleachers, MUNA, The Cribs, Keo, Bleech 9:3, The Lilacs Park: MARINA, Magdalena Bay, Jacob Alon, TBA (Lily Allen performs West End Girl), Getdown Services, Isaac Wood, Snail Mail, Madra Salach Pyramid: Sam Fender, Hozier, David Byrne, Cher, Obongjayar, David Gray, Billy Ocean Other: Doja Cat, Deftones, Addison Rae, Ren, Viagra Boys, Maisie Peters, The Reytons, Hard Life West Holts: Kano, Thievery Corporation, Angine De Poitrine, Thee Sacred Souls, Brooke Combe, Sasha Keable, Master Peace Woodsies: The Wombats, Metronomy, Geese*, Dry Cleaning, EsDeeKid, Sienna Spiro, Cowboy Hunters, Radio Free Alice Park: Big Thief, Laura Marling, MJ Lenderman, Richard Dawson, Oklou, Maruja, Dead Dads Club, Ratboys   *There's always one band booked for Woodsies that ends up being massively under-billed and gets shut down really early. They'd be better off playing somewhere like Other sub, but I could see the G getting them to play a smaller stage while it's still possible
